If it wasn’t for NIL this has program killer vibes. Ten years ago this type of season and the toxicity around the team and high school recruiting would have set us back years. Luckily, the free agent era is upon us and I fully believe we can be instantly better with a good hire. It’s a stupid bright side, but a bright side IMO.

But it’s a very real reality as well. IU has F you money apparently for basketball like they showed this offseason and that’s a huge plus for any prospective/wanted coach.

Social media test says to me Woodson has lost almost all support. This will get ugly soon. This is why you don't retain someone who unquestionably proved to be not good at coaching. Now we embark on another wasted season and likely the most toxic in iu basketball history. Sad

They thought if they just gave him 6.5 million it would fix everything. These boosters aren't very bright.

Sometimes you do things to say you tried. Sucks to lose an entire year over it, but now the excuses are gone.

Easier to move on and feel better about it. I get it. It sucks for everyone that has to suffer though.

The Fife, Howard, Hoosier Hysterics thing plus the fighting on the bench and the observed team chemistry issues all season (not just today) are huge indicators to me of what’s important to Woodson.

Mike Woodson is what’s important to Woodson?

MW proves all the money in the world can't buy you a winner. It did for pete bell but he could coach. Look at wisconsin so far. Ranked top 15 they were supposed to stink and didn't really buy a team either.

MW is embarrassing himself and the University because they spent a large amount of money for him to have a team he can compete with and win, but that isn’t happening

Bruce Pearl’s people reached out to IU & IU really chose sleepy Woodson and Armond Hill

IU needs a 20 pt loss tomorrow and a loss of any sort Friday. Gives Dolson the opportunity to be proactive & feel out coaches on the plane home.

Iowa St coach, Bruce Pearl, JMU HC. Who else we got on the board?

NIL bought Woodson this season though. Without it there was no way they could have brought him back. He isn't getting any good players without paying them alot.

And sometimes rich people just spend money stupidly. Wasting 6mil on a roster that still has Woodson as coach qualifies.

I’ve been silent since the end of last season, but here are random thoughts from a 50+ year fan and IU Alum…

  • IMO, it was somewhere between criminal and inconceivable that Mike Woodson was retained (and not fired for dereliction of duty) after last season.
  • Is it still early in the season, with a new group/roster? Yes.
  • Could this team turn it around and get things fixed and play much better. Yes.
  • Do we have realistic reason, based on observed performance, data, and information to believe they will? Sadly, no.
  • I can’t think of one thing Woodson’s teams do well, or have consistently done well. Not. One.
  • There is not one visible, observable thing I can think of that would give ANY indication that this man played for a championship level/hall of fame coach.
  • We have one of the be$t ro$ters money can buy and they look absolutely clueless, uninspired, and pathetic.
  • This team doesn’t even look like an acceptably competitive D1 team (last year’s didn’t either)
  • Seems like a reasonable, rational, unemotional observer would have to conclude that this isn’t working and it isn’t going to.
  • Seems like that same observer would have concluded (or been able to have concluded) this at least a year ago.

My conclusions:

  • Mike Woodson would never have been seriously considered, let alone hired, at IU if he had not played here.
  • Woodson never should have made it out of March as Indiana’s basketball coach.

And remember, the best predictor of future behavior is past relevant behavior. Your honor, I rest my case. Fire the bum today.
