They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

“Just say his name and he’ll appear.” I swear any time I hear his theme song I can’t get it out of my head, and I rarely watch wrestling lol.
Tonight will be very interesting. We normally don’t play well in Madison so curious what the outcome/fallout will be. I doubt any, as it appears Woody will finish out the season. For the sake of everything not getting worse, just hope it’s a close loss if we don’t win. Any more blow outs and it will get ugly.

I would say he will be here until end of season unless Brad or Dusty is locked up beforehand (which I doubt). Totally me just putting everything we have heard together and I think that Woodson is just a sitting duck right now because Brad and Dusty are obviously employed and Dolson doesn’t want to fire Woodson and then have them two peppered with No Win situation questions and put them and us in an awkward spot. But again, just as assumption I’m putting together.

What’s he cooking today?  Please don’t say Chicago Deep Dish pizza, that picture made me full just looking at it!

My expectation was a second weekend appearance with a $6mil roster. WTF does that have to do with the Southland? You think Mike Woodson is going 28-2 in the Southland?

So Wade is better than Steve Lutz and Mike Woodson? Really setting that bar high, eh?

We're not doing this today. I can't handle another day like yesterday.

We've got ~1300 pages to to catch the College Bball Thread and only about a month to do so. The Woodson defenders are always good at helping pad the page count. Plus he's unintentionally hilarious with his horrible takes.

OK, you're right. Proceed.

I just can't bring myself to root for a loss.

Understandable, from my perspective, I don't want to root for a win nor a win streak. College basketball is simple, you lose and get fired. You win, you'll stick around.

We all want him gone, therefor, we must lose.

Can you imagine why Jordan would ever consider playing baseball for the Birmingham Barons?  One might argue that he was "in the best of all possible basketball worlds" in 1993.  What is your opinion of minor league baseball?

Michael Jordan's first love was baseball and he sacrificed millions of dollars and probably two NBA championships to ride buses in the minor leagues for two summers in his 30's.  That's a pretty expensive fantasy camp!  Actually, had it not been for the MLB work stoppage in 1995 he might never have returned to basketball.

Bobby Knight called Jordan "the best basketball player I've ever seen play".  As a basketball player, many have argued (Knight included) that he was the best athlete in any sport.  Where would Jordan rank as a baseball player?

Speaking of Bobby Knight, one might think that he was "in the best of all possible basketball worlds" in early July of 1981.  He had just won his second NCAA championship by the age of 40 and had a talented group of players returning.  Isiah Thomas and Ray Tolbert were off to the pros but rising senior Landon Turner had blossomed into one of the best players in college basketball and Wittman, Kitchel, and Jimmy Thomas would be back as well.  Can you imagine why Knight would ever consider approaching CBS about joining the television network for the 1981-82 season as a college basketball commentator?  CBS would be a huge step down in my opinion.

Knight reached out to CBS and the network made a concrete offer for a substantial amount to Knight that summer.  When he returned to IU in the fall of 1981, Knight ultimately admitted to the media that he was “very close” to accepting the offer.  After Landon's accident Knight had decided to remain the coach at Indiana so as to be best positioned to organize the establishment of the Landon Turner Trust Fund.

Knight had worked as a color commentator for CBS during the 1979 NCAA Tournament and apparently thought enough of his performance to consider leaving the sidelines for the broadcast booth.  Never lacking for confidence, he would later explain his flirtation with a mid-life career change by asserting that "very few people have ever achieved greatness in two separate endeavors" (or words to that effect).

Brad Stevens may ultimately decide to not coach basketball at Indiana University, but is it really so far-fetched that a man who can choose his own path might choose to accept $70 million (plus) to do a thing he has always loved to do at a place he has dreamed of doing it?

Jordan was suspended.  :)

Hell, the fans who wanted Woodson for a coach are a dying breed....literally.

My father is 80 this year.  He went to IU undergrad and law school.  Below was the text I received when we all were blessed with the news Woody was returning home to bridge the gap and win B1G championships and NCAAs.

What in the hell is IU thinking this is going to be a disaster??

Another article I found on MSN stating that it might be time to turn the page on MW!

I like stories like that since it kills the narrative some push that no one outside of IU knows what's going on so won't understand if Woodson is fired. Firing Woodson now or at the end of the season isn't bad optics. Keeping him another year would be.
