If the search gets to the point where Brownell and Pitino are in serious contention we are well and truly cooked lol

From an optics point of view yeah probably however IU as  a program is a middle of the pack B1G team. Not many middle of the pack programs for 30 years plus gets a white whale.   IU might have to grind a little bit before jumping into the top of the sport.  Can’t skip steps and if the steps are lower coaches that what people want then that’s where the IU program is

In keeping with his strict criteria, Rico would like to enter Arkansas St HC Bryan Hodgson's name into the discussion....

Maybe since you said it this time it won't fall on deaf ears. I doubt it though.

I’ve said it multiple times over the years.   That’s just my opinion.   I just don’t get bent out of shape if others hope and talk about getting the white whales.   Doesn’t effect me especially on a free message board

Just so I follow we have to get a mid-major coach because we are a middle-of-the-pack Big Ten team or do we have to go that route because we aren't allowed to skip steps and get a big-time coach?

If a big-time coach will turn down doubling their salary because we aren't where were at as a program right now then we should probably take their name off the list.

IU can get whoever they want if they say yes.    You don’t see many teams that have been down 30 years get the white whale.   Plenty of big time coaches will say yes however you don’t see the Stevens, Donavans coming in on a white horse to save a program

Donavans

They made another rebuilding type trade yesterday. I could potentially see him jumping back. Although UNC is maybe a better fit.

IU still plays in the B1G conference.  That alone will get coaches outside the SEC and B1G wanting a chance at a step up.   IU has lots of positives that should bring in a really good coach.   I’m worried about a lot of things but IU getting a coach that can turn this thing around isn’t one of them if the AD is allowed to go his job

Not many middle of the pack programs have 5 million dollars for roster construction and the largest recruiting budget in their conference.

OK I get what your saying. And that makes total sense. I just feel like this time you can't be cheap, you have to throw a ton of money at whoever you think can do the job. Your losing fans already, and it's going to take a big hit to get some back.

Winning will bring in the fans, no matter the coach.

IU is kind of running out of runway with some fans though, I think. I can kind of feel it with the group of people that I text and talk to regularly. So rolling the dice on another up and comer and it coming up snake eyes again is risky.

Whoever the coach is the bar is so low from what fans have expected the last 8 years it wouldn’t take much to gain those fans back.   Make it to the second weekend in your first couple years and he would give IU fans something they haven’t experienced in a while.   Crazy the lack of tourney success this program has had
