Damn, it's hard to squeeze in a post these days.

I'm not going to try to quote @cleeter and @jbeaman9 but their takes on how this plays out are on point IMO and my experience.  And FWIW, IU may be an educational institution but the management of IU isn't really any different than it is at any large corporation.  Dolson needs to have President Whitten completely in his corner.  In turn, they need to know they have BOT support.  If they know there is no support whatsoever, it would be career suicide for both to push the matter and have it overwhelmingly slapped back in their faces.

Short digression.  Someone asked who QB's boss is?  He was appointed by the Governor so I suppose technically that's his boss.  QB's term expires in 2025 and I don't know if there's any age limit on BOT members.  If not, then it is possible our next governor could re-appoint him in 2025.

While I'm certain the BOT members don't follow our athletic programs as closely as we do, they don't live in a vacuum and are aware of the unrest in the fanbase.  Also, I feel certain Dolson and Whitten have some strong allies on the board that they are in communication with and keeping them fully apprised of what's taking place.  While QB is chairman and can wield some authority when it comes down to voting, a chairman typically only votes in the event of a tie.  The situation with IU basketball has become too big for QB to stonewall.  Group dynamics strongly suggest that the entire board doesn't follow in lockstep with everything QB wants but how the board may be split over the head coaching position is anyone's guess at this point.  And while I don't want the inmates running the asylum, the real possibility of mass defections unless Woody is replaced could well be the tipping point because of the negative image and press it would generate for the university.

The fact that Dolson seems to be going full bore ahead with a plan at this point to me means two things:

1.  He is doing it to tighten the screws on QB plus put pressure on other board members not to go lockstep with him and

2.  He feels that there is a chance that by doing so he will succeed.

Dolson knows that alumni and fans are in support of a coaching change.  Making the plan to move on as well as it being leaked of the potential plan forces the rest of the board to consider if they really want to support an unpopular coach.  Any thought of blowback from QB has to be balanced with the blowback they would face from alumni/donors.  And support can breed support -- if one or two key players on the board fall in line with moving on from Woodson, the more likely it is the other board members will join.

SIAP, but I was going back through the Monday night chat last night. And saw this story

1.) This will sound like l'm piling on. Not my intention. Just passing on a story. There's been some frustration with the "chances" that our current assistants get to have a meaningful impact on the current team and our recruiting. So, I'm only speaking personally, I did think it was odd to hear that one of the people Mike enjoys listening to about IUBB (outside of the Wittman, Todd, Hill braintrust) is..... Terri (Woodson)

So outside of his buddies, he goes to his WIFE over the staff for recruiting. Makes the Boogie situation sound a lot more believable.

You lost me at “braintrust.”   :)

Gracefully is definitely out of the question at this point.  I knew when he made that statement that he wasn’t going anywhere, that was the calm before the storm
This will end very ugly either this year or next. Woodson made his choice and now its battle time. The gloves are off and there can be no coming back from this.

A horrible day for this Hoosier fan. I had to watch a Bobby Knight coached team lose twice in one day.....

Who can tell me how that happened?

Not saying he cant, but that would be very unwise and job suicide for Dolson

would make him a folk hero... Bob Dylan and Joan Baez be singing "The Ballad of Scotty Dolson"...

I get that Dolson is an IU guy through and through and being head of the athletics department at this university was probably a dream job of his from early on, but at what point do you show a little dignity and stand up for yourself? Assuming Woody gets a 4th year, why not come out and publicly say how things are being run behind the scenes while stepping down with honor? Does anyone really think Dolson is going to survive this whole ordeal anyway? You just know the Woodson failed hired is ultimately going to be pinned on Dolson seeing as he's the AD who "hired" and announced Woodson. Buckner is never going to publicly own this and somebody will have to take the fall. If you're Dolson, why not get out in front of it now?

If Dolson is kept from being able to hire his coach, he should step down. This is basically 2 opportunities to hire his guy and he’s being overruled. Thats as good as a vote of no confidence. I’d leave. Who wants to work under those conditions?

I feel bad for the guy. I’ve blamed him at times for this hire bc I assumed he was responsible. I owe him an apology.

Yeah I totally understand that.

I'm just in awe that one man, who happens to be Woody's friend, is allowed to have the final say. I don't believe that. There has to be a way around that.

Where would one go to file an ethics complaint in this scenario?

Sucks that my first reaction to this is “man that would be awesome for him!”

Exactly where I'm at. I'd be so happy to see him go to UCONN and compete for a Championship and escape this toilet of a basketball program

Let's get it to the Supreme Court

I want Woodson gone as much as anyone. Him and Buckner are program legends and wouldn't want an ugly split; but if Buckner is trying to protect his friend as it sounds I'm afraid that ship has sailed.

The hire was so immensely stupid.

And these clowns are risking it all to lose their program legend status. Do you want to remember for you what did FOR Indiana or what you did TO Indiana?

I also don't think Dolson is going to show his hand just yet. I think he has more cards to play in the final two weeks

This is where my mind went. Feels like a slow yet steady drip of information.

So what's the ace up his sleeve? Does Dolson know someone at ESPN he could leak "Pearl, Hoosiers Have Mutual Interest" teasers to?

Guess we'll find out.

It's like the difference between Manchester United and Sheffield United (hopefully you watch the Premier League or this reference isn't going to make a lick of sense)

Yeah, I don't... except on Ted Lasso. :D

I agree, my assumption and would guess is most everyone else’s as well was when BS fell through Dolson panicked and we ended up with QBs friend. The tea leaves really look like Dolson was forced and now I am guessing he had a backup but got overruled.

As much as i would love that, i dont think that would be Dolson's news to drop. I dont want us to risk pissing Pearl off by saying that with his team still having games to play. Now if Pearl says, "Scott, i really want this drop, let her fly"....then hell yeah

As players they helped turn this program into what it was. Seems like some part of them would want what's best for the program, and even Stevie Wonder can see this isn't it.
