Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Yeah I was fully on board at the time, but I really don’t think he could’ve done worse than what we’ve gotten the last 8 years from Miller/Woodson.

I remember being in campus and looking forward to Davis leaving. Now we have a coach that makes Mike Davis look good.

McCollum would be about 4th or 5th on my list, but you have to remember he's coaching D-2 transfers. If shortening the game works best for them, that's what they need to do. He may not play such a slow pace if he has better talent. I'm reminded of how Wisconsin was the slowest team in the Kenpom era under Bo Ryan, then when he had Final Four talent he turned them loose.

That's a good point. I guess the question is what kind of tempo did his D2 teams play at? Has anyone on this site watched any of those games? Have you, @Uspshoosier?

Not enough.  I’ve watched some of the championship games they played.  This year is the first time watching his teams closely.  Definitely doesn’t push the pace however if it results in big time wins and deep March runs then people will tolerate the snail pace

With the internet and hundreds of college basketball "sites," pretty much anybody can write an article -- and they really don't have to know what they're talking about.

I could almost guarantee you that just about everybody on BTB knows way more about IU basketball than Ericka Brockish.

"The recruits he is bringing in" --  you mean the TWO?

"If Indiana wants to keep this international star, then they probably have to keep Woodson, too." That's almost comical. We'd keep a coach because of one Bosnian recruit? That might be the rationale Quinn Buckner and Steve Ferguson would try to employ -- but very unlikely anybody else would.

He looks like he knows what he is doing on the sidelines and Drake  played with purpose. Was fun to watch him live ran the show for sure.

Facebook is pure comedy. His remaining crew is going with your a hater if you dont support him because it means you don't support the team. They are really outnumbered now though.

He was terrific at Valpo and at GC as well.  But was absolutely terrible at Vandy who is now having a great season.  Not sure he’s cut out for a big boy job.

People should take a look at the current vandy coach Mark Byington also. Just beat Kentucky and they play a fast 5 out modern offense. He was at James Madison the year before so maybe a Cig part 2.

One million percent yes.

Also, Jerrod Calhoun at Utah State and Micah.

Calhoun’s buyout is low; Vandy and ND are private schools so there isn’t public info on their contract terms.

Shrews hasn't shown me anything... but I like Jerrod Calhoun quite a bit.

Stuhoo, almost positive you have been asked this before, so apologies.

What makes you like Micah or think he would have success here?

What makes me a Micah fan? Everything except won/loss record at Notre Dame (which clearly is no small thing):

-Modern style of play

-College lifer

-Local ties

-NBA experience

-Personality (watch him interviewed—very likable but he is also very blunt)

-Prior success in the B1G

-He would want the job

-Young

-Clean background

Basketball coach at Notre Dame is a really tough job. A P5 schedule with limited resources and very high admission standards, especially for portal which makes it impossible to rebuild quickly. On top of that he has had major injuries to his most talented players this year. I know it’s a very different era and no one is like RMK, but I feel like there are similarities between Micah and RMK at Army.

I am reasonably confident that he would consistently succeed in a real way at Indiana.

FWIW: as a very much dark horse flier, I am also intrigued by Amile Jefferson. I am so itching for a 25 year+ era-long solution.

So, everything but for the most important thing… Hiring a guy with 1 winning season in 6 years as a college head coach would be very on brand for recent IU, though.
