If you oppose Quinn, what is the fallout? He doesn't appoint board members, so trying to understand how he wields so much power and influence over other members.

Right. And he’s gone next year anyway, what’s the worry?

Saw on the other board that someone said Trilly mentioned that Quinn hired Archie last time and it wasn't Fred's pick. I'm curious who was Fred's pick other than Donovan. I'm also surprised we didn't get Woody then since he wanted the job back when we got Archie. Was Archie the compromise choice ?

I know Fred was also interested in Chris Holtmann at the time.  No one really thought Archie was going to be a bad hire, but the Donovan possibility was real and had everyone excited.

As with most political positions, the fear of opposing the president or chairman is that if you have a project you really need approved by the board/committee, the president/chairman could tank it in retaliation.

And given Buckner's connections to big money donors/Corp executives/pro basketball, that retaliation could extend into your personal life if you really cross him. I think that's the implicit danger people fear.

100% this. But if he has only a year left on the board maybe someone decides it worth the risk. I'm sure Buckner would be petty.

Here's my expectations of an IU basketball coach.  After the first 2 years, Woodson would have scored well on numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4.  This year he would only score well on number 4.  I feel like he has been way below expectations on 5-10. These would be my expectations of any new coach that we would bring in.

Expectations for the IU Basketball Coach

1.      Consistently be ranked in the top 20 nationally

2.      Consistently be ranked in the upper third of the Big Ten and winning a Big Ten title once every 3-4 years

3.      Win 90% of home games

4.      Recruit quality young men that will positively represent the university on the floor and academically

5.      Establish a midwestern recruiting base in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan

6.      Recruit players whose intent is to play 2+ years in college basketball

7.      Build the roster through high school recruiting and utilize the portal to complete the roster because of an unexpected departure

8.      Play a modern style of basketball that attracts recruits and provides an opportunity of beating an athletically superior team

9.     Establish a team identity

10.  Establish a program culture

Respectfully, I would not score Woody well on any of these. Maybe #6. Everything else is a fail.

Assuming any of this is true, this is how the dumbest organizations in the world make decisions. Which leads me to believe there’s some possibility that this is how IU is operating.

Here’s how this will play out. Dolson belatedly wins that fight and they announce Woody is gone. BP gets what he wants from Auburn and pulls the rug out from underneath Dolson (he’ll be familiar with this sensation). During that time May will have agreed to contractual terms with another major school. We’ll scramble and hire somebody we never expected with half the resume or upside of May because the donors who promised money got BP didn’t want to give it for a mid major guy.

Ahhhh…the life of an IU fan!

And still, in your nightmare scenario, we may be better off than if we stick with the status quo.

Because everyone is scared of him. He is vice president of the Pacers and has the Simons backing him. No one wants to cross QB. He is letting everyone know that Woodson is getting a 4th year. He won't even have a conversation about it.

Another sad part is if he makes the tournament next year, then he will probably get a 5th year.

What tournament is that?  :)

If the rumors and such are true about players, he'll be lucky to field a team.  Going to look like one of Crean's first years.
