Again, agree to a point. I am not here to say that X is a perfect leader. That he ticks all the boxes we'd like to see ticked. However I don't think the other guys on the floor care much about what happened with the driving issue. Probably not even the flagrant fouls other than they put the team farther behind in the specific games they occurred in. I think they do care that he is more skilled than Cupps, more physically mature than Cupps. Can get to the rim on his own.

I think that a certain part of the fanbase has put much more emphasis on the character issues X has displayed than his teammates do.

I will also say we do play faster when he is out there and there is more confidence with everyone when he is on the floor. Sometimes that's good and sometimes that's bad. But if he played the whole season I would put us with 2-3 more wins at most

You are misreading me man.  Maybe we should DM. This wasn’t even about you. I was using it as an example that you don’t post your full name for all to see. I am not going to either. Same as most all here.

So I took advice of a few posters and decided I will post my facts, my truth, my opinion and not worry if others agree or not. I still appreciate legit counter points but I rarely see that. Most of the members here have their minds made up and don’t want to debate anything that doesn’t align with their feelings. People can have their opinions and that is great. I do think it is sad that many are not willing to consider more sides to arguments on many subjects.

Lol...buy a mirror man.  You just described yourself

X has also lost us games in the past. Even if he would have won us some, it’s just as fair to say he would’ve lost us some too.

"Dusty May isn't proven."

Seriously guys? Dusty May took FAU to the Final Four. He built that program from the ground up. How could you possibly prove yourself anymore? What else would it take? If you hesitate on him, you run the risk of him going to Ohio State or Michigan and steamrolling us year after year.

We have 4 Tournament appearances in the last 10 years. We have advanced past the sweet sixteen once in the past 30 years. ONCE! We have a clueless coach leading our program in the wrong direction. We have been in the bottom half of the big ten for most of the last 10 years. if anything, our program has become the "unproven" party when looking for a new coach. Thankfully, we have an absolutely rabid fanbase that few programs can rival.

I'd argue that's why we need to get as proven of a coach as we can, someone like Pearl that's done it everywhere, instead of another "maybe he's here 20 years, maybe he needs fired in 4" gamble like May.

I think @Trish made it up in his head and has been repeating it ever since. I just get a kick out of it each time I hear it because you've said each time that it's not true

It's so weird.  Blocking crazy out of your life makes things really boring.  I prefer to kick beehives and then laugh at the chaos

Gunn has the ability to at least athletically

A ridiculous assessment shared by nobody at this point. He’s the slowest guy laterally on the team and can barely stay in front of anyone.

Cupps has had his moments of good defense—even woodson has publicly said so—and plenty of times he’s struggled. About what you would expect, and many predicted this summer, from a freshman pg ranked about 100. He shouldn’t be playing more than 5-10mpg;  He’ll pay at this level just fine eventually and be the type of jr or sr contributor that everyone whines that IU doesn’t have.

Respectfully, you’re in no position to criticize anyone else’s understanding of the game.

Or it is a young team by minutes played and most young teams are “soft” - yes, again, he created this roster.

It is also just one of many things man. X goes down twice, Ware missing big games as well, fans booing them (that does matter), fans attacking players directly with their anger for losses (lots of that this year), etc.  You can tell guys to ignore that like Woody said he coaches them to do but in reality it is hard. Then you get parents involved too. It has been rough and needing that leader on the court really matters.

I don’t know how to say this without being called a narcissist haha but usually guys who say teams who struggle to overcome as being soft haven’t been in those situations themselves and understand

You're funny.  Funny like a clown.  Here to amuse us.

You can either choose to be soft or not.  If, as a high level athlete (or frankly any profession), you're not your worst critic, and you're going to let fans etc. get to you, you're softer than the stay puff marshmallow man.  To compete, you have to have ice in your veins.  But, I'm old school.  Society has passed me by.  We are raising a generation of softies these days.  So it is to be expected.

What else it would take? …. some people expect him to do it again, or even a couple more times, which I think is pretty unrealistic at Florida Atlantic.

I was looking at the rosters in their conference the other day.  Out of 14 teams, seven teams have at least one RSCI top 100 player on their roster.  Memphis has four.  Florida Atlantic is one of the seven without any.

So, I would argue that he’s an incredible coach.  If there is anything left to prove, perhaps it’s whether he can recruit at a higher level.

Look, this response from you and others says a lot. I mean a lot about a lack of understanding of team dynamics. It is also coming through that you are done and that is fine but everything is being twisted to support that argument now. Nothing will sway you. What if the players came out and told you point blank that was a huge reason for their effort changing and not having him while relying on Cupps to be a leader has been tough.

Is X a word beater… nope. In an off injury all year, rusty as hell, not great last night etc.

However, there was genuine excitement to get a leader back on the floor. This is seen in sports all the damn time. One guy who fans don’t think is important, goes down, and whole team folds. They have missed him dearly as a leader on the floor. This is a very young team and they don’t look at Cupps like they look at X. Cupps also has a lot of pressure taken off, less minutes to play etc with him back.

You can all say I am a know it all etc but what is this response from you? You and others acting like they know it all too.

As some one who has played, a child play at a high level,  seen this exact scenario play out before with teams personally, lived it, yeah, I do know a little about it.

You are all correct, it has nothing to do with X because his +\- stats and his turnovers, etc If was pure coincidence they played harder than they have in a long time. I don’t know, maybe since Iowa? Where he played as well.

It is not in any way crazy to think this team is right on bubble line with X or in. Not at all.

before anyone says yeah but first of year we sucked too. Yeah, we have a ton of new and young players. Woody was playing deep bench and X was still getting back to playing. That is hard to do and always takes athletes multiple games to get back to true form.

The mere presence of a leader on the floor and dressed makes all world of difference.

I’m sorry but almost every post you make proves the point of the other poster comment “smartest guy in the room” syndrome. It’s kind of comical and entertaining. I’m reaching for my popcorn.

At this point I think Cupps must've kicked his dog or something.

Agreed his mature,  less below average than Cupps, borderline sexual assualt PG play would have us firmly on the bubble of teams not on the bubble.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be thrilled with Pearl as well. I just think Dusty will be something special (i.e. Jay Wright (Hofstra), Thad Matta(Butler), Nate Oats (Buffalo)).

and 2-3 more wins does nothing to change the outlook of recruiting or the overall trajectory of the program.

But keep banging that X drum coach Woodson!

I feel like recruiting at a school like IU sort of takes care of itself especially with the NIL.  Archie had a boring style of play and a really strange personality and landed 3 five stars in 4 years.  Crean was a weirdo and had 5 in 5 years at one point.  Woody can't coach a lick and got JHS, Reneau, Ware, and MM.  Recruiting wouldn't be my concern.
