Soon to RETIRE Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

I can see your point and won't give much pushback. However, I do think there's plenty of talent here to make the tournament this year with a better staff.

Yep there is. But with woodson this team may not even make the NIT.

The problem is the fan base is so strong and supportive of the basketball program that I believe this all falls on deaf ears because no matter what, the Indiana faithful will always pack Assembly Hall. The University knows this.

Once the Boomers start cancelling their tickets, this program is in trouble. That generation still faithfully watches and goes to games because it's what they've always done. Nothing is being done to get younger people interested or excited about IU basketball. It's just stale and stuffy to them, and not worth their time.

That’s because the program is mediocre.  I bet Turdue has a younger age following

I agree there is too; however, Woodson is so bad at coaching that he has never taken advantage of their strengths and limited their weaknesses.  That’s a sign of bad coaching

Share his email address and let’s all flood him with emails

Wade and Reneau are good players, though Reneau’s defense can be pretty bad. Galloway would be a good bench player averaging 20 mpg as your 3rd or 4th best guard. He’s nowhere near good enough to be a34 mpg guy like he is on this team. Mgbako is a bad defender, bad athlete, and is shooting 38% from the field. Had he stayed at Duke, he probably wouldn’t even be in their rotation. I don’t think any of Cupps, Gunn, or Banks have demonstrated anything to suggest they’d be contributors this year under a better coach. This team would be a bubble team even with a good coach. They just don’t have the horses.

Reneau’s recognition is god awful and has become very selfish and a black hole

I think it is time for the fans who are done with Woodson to make their voices heard. Not just on message boards and social media but to the actual decision makers. Like my Political Science Professor said, if you don't vote then you have no right to complain about what is happening. So get out their and join me in emailing the administration and let your voice he heard. I haven't emailed Dolson since the PSU game and probably won't until the season ends.

Almost every major conference game I've watched I come away amazed at how much more athletic and grittier other teams are than us.

We're soft, poorly coached and way behind others athletically.

Banks to the transfer portal is a lock.

Aside from Reneau, who’s returning that’s a difference maker? This tenure is dead, despite the last two years moderate successes. It’s easy to see momentum is just going the wrong way. Would be better for the program and Woody both to save face here, give Woody his $, and tell him he’s retiring at the end of the year.

I’m disappointed in you all. I’m sitting here at work at 2:30 AM and all I have is 7 pages to read after yesterday’s game. I expect more outta you people!

I think that’s an example of apathy setting in.  When diehard fans start tuning out, it should cause alarm.

Apathy.  The only thing that matters now is what happens in the offseason.  The rest of these games don't mean anything.

I really hope Dolson and the administration are smart enough and have the mindset that this isn’t a matter of “well Coach Woodson just needs to bring in a new set of players in the portal to get this fixed.” I’m sure that’s what Woodson is obviously going to try to sell to Dolson if he wants to come back next year. Im seeing a lot more stuff on social media now of Woodson throwing players under the bus and how people are pointing out that it’s getting pretty ridiculous. Just a big ‘ol waste of time to me to build a whole new team with Woodson if we can get a new coach to do the exact same thing with better results.

The feel around the games and the team really does seem to be odd lately. If I remember correctly, same thing kind of happened with Archie towards end of his last season. Wheels falling off, mood and demeanor of coaches/players seemed odd, people wanting Archie gone, yet word was he was getting another year and that we were gonna have to go through another season of it…then once season ended, boom, was announced we were moving on. Now I understand that getting rid of Archie when we did, and getting rid of Mike Woodson now are going to be different in the sense of who they are and whatnot (which I don’t think should matter…if Woodson is failing then who cares that he was a former player..nothing against who he is as a player and person), but yeah, just feels like the same thing kinda going on towards the end of Archie’s last season and this one. I could be misremembering though.

Also, the whole apathy thing, I agree, as guilty of it myself, and it’s quite sad. I couldn’t WAIT til IU had a game.
Family, friends, IU basketball.
Now, I know when they have games, but don’t care if I miss it. I don’t want that.

I didn't before yesterday but now I really think we'll see a change this year.  I just can't see how they bring him back.  Even the usual sunshine pumpers seem to have completely abandoned the program.  Dolson will be in enormous trouble if he doesn't make a change and a splash hire.

They are not. We don’t have too many issues this year that weren’t on display last year.

Talent covered up some of those. And that blinded the administration into giving Woody a raise. So why would this off season be different. They’re going to see it as a talent issue.
