Hovadipo Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 Learning this week that The Cuban Spigot (trademarking that) has turned on has completely changed my stance on the likelihood of us keeping Cig. I had previously felt pretty strongly that a program with more resources and built-in advantages could pry him away if that was something he was interested in. I’m no longer worried. Stuhoo Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 The staff will continue to get raises if they stay, but there’s no way we will be able to match the $3million-ish per year head coaching offers Haines will get after this season. Quote

When Cuban says he gave a “substantial” gift to IU sports that’s notable. Cuban wouldn’t throw around the word “substantial” lightly. Also of note: the Cook family’s net worth is still roughly double that of Mark Cuban. MemphisHoosier 1 Quote

Let’s get Haines on the Brent Venables plan. He was Dabo’s DC for like 10 years and was elite or close to it the entire time. He was making nearly $2mil a year when he left for OU. Pagoda Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 True, I think we would pay Haines whatever he wanted, but if he wants the head coaching gig there is nothing we can do. If he wants to go the head coach route, hopefully he is picky about the job he takes and stays here a little longer as he waits for the right one. Artie86, Jeff Flabjohns and MemphisHoosier 3 Quote

He could end up with a really good gig that opens after the initial spin of the carousel. Thinking like a Tulane or Memphis, maybe even back to JMU if Chesney gets plucked but might be too soon for him. Pagoda and MemphisHoosier 2 Quote

I couldn't find the buyout numbers but both of their salaries are numbers that can be persuasive enough to entice them to sit at the table, in my opinion. And I would think both of them would like the chance to coach Big Ten football. This was the first board mention of the legend that is Curt Cignetti. And one would think that Cig still has five years left, so there’s no coach in waiting option. Quote

If we wanted to, we have enough athletic dept revenue to bump Haines up from $2.1M to $3M. No guarantees we would, but I think if it kept him we probably would. But in general I agree head coach jobs are going to be offering more money per year. He could easily get HC offers that exceed $3M/yr, with probably longer duration and more guaranteed money too. Plus it’s a big step up in his career. If he takes a HC gig it’s very understandable and I’ll cheer for him. Stuhoo and Home Jersey 2 Quote
Dave from Dayton Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 Yesterday, after another obviously terrible decision to flag IU, Coach Cig got into the ref's face, told the refs to please stop with their self-anal cranial insertions... That had to put a major cramp on the refs tilting the field. The players approved that message. What a job this coaching staff has done. Whew! J34, Banksyrules, LockdownD and 2 others 5 Quote

Josh Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 It's not going to be just Penn State. I live in the land of Florida fans who are convinced that he will be their next coach. I've even heard some Florida State fans who want to fire their coach just to have a shot at the golden coach. Call me a sunshine pumper, but I doubt he'll leave. I have no doubt however that he's getting calls and will continue to get calls all off-season. Do what you need to do Dolson. Home Jersey, Stuhoo and Artie86 3 Quote
