Didn’t Dolson conduct the bball search in a similar manner? List of names people thought it’d be and then boom out of nowhere ends up being Woodson? I could be wrong, can’t fully remember. Ended up being a bunch of smoke screens and then turned out to be someone else.

Sounded like he thought he had Stevens in the bag, got used and abused by Tracy Stevens, and then panicked and hired Woody.  I don't think he ever had a backup.

Curious as to why Fuente isn’t a candidate? He’s been around the program, so he sorta knows what he’s dealing with. He’s got P5 head coaching experience. From what I understand, he had some issues with the AD who didn’t hire him at VT, which he felt hamstrung him a bit.

Not necessarily advocating for him. Just seems as he might be worthy of consideration. Don’t know if he has any interest, however.

I have a really good friend who is a Tech grad, and huge fan. He's not connected in any way, just a fan like many of us, participates on their message boards, etc. He hated the Fuente hire from day 1 and remained anti-Fuente throughout. Said a lot of the fanbase felt that way. But it wasn't because of his coaching abilities so much as he just thought the he and Va Tech were a terrible fit, and the longer he was there the more apparent that was. Not exactly sure how, so this is probably not helpful. I don't know how I'd feel about Fuente being the coach at IU. But I wouldn't hold his Va Tech departure against him.

It did? It sounded like that? When?

I don't think it sounded like that at all.

Yeah basically from what I read, they never allowed him to fully take over the reigns. There were holdovers looking over his shoulder. Bad fit? Maybe. But sounds like it was more of a power struggle based on Beamer's cronies lurking around telling him what he should do etc.

Look at the comments from Toledo fans vs the comments from Kent fans.

Idk if Lewis can bring in a good DC, but he has HC experience/experience in the portal, made the worst program in the MAC respectable, and if anything his stock has grown since Deion removed him from play-calling since their offense has gotten immediately worse after being awesome. Feels like his floor is Kevin Wilson.

Yep. Kent State is the IU of the MAC and he had them on a great trajectory. A ton of experience recruiting Ohio/the midwest and an explosive offense. He's probably my favorite candidate, if he is one.

(I am not opposed to Candle, just incredibly pro-Lewis)

Honestly, those comments may have made me out on Candle. They all mention losing games they shouldn't have and bad play-calling. Can't afford that.

I really like Lewis, I love that he has been in the spotlight this year, I think that might help him attract the defensive staff he will need. The way people talk about his offensive mind would help make IUFB fun again. And he has experience recruiting a new team from the portal. Plus, he has experience building a program that is at the bottom of their conference like IU.

Someone like Mullen has similar credentials, plus Mullen brings Florida/SEC recruiting connections which the coach at IU is always going to need.

Dang, you ripped the guts out of me. I've tried to forget but you brought me back to that day like it was yesterday.

I was reading one of the 500 articles about possible coaches. One mentioned that Chryst is not a fan of NIL or transfer portal. Interesting things to consider

Today I started looking at top coordinators. Because, well, that's where I'm at now.  A lot to choose from and depending on what direction you want but I think I would be happy with a guy like Manny Diaz. I would think we would be seeing these types of names on the list instead of Sean Lewis. Especially after letting Allen go with a huge buyout. But whatever, it's IUFB we're talking about here.

Haven't been as active on here in the last week. Coach Allen had to go. Simple as that. Props to Dolson for making the change and not waiting another year. A 1-11 or 2-10 season was likely. Based on Hot Boards and names, I like these five names in order:

Tom Herman

Paul Chyrst

Willie Fritz

Jason Candle

Ryan Silverfield

I'll be honest, I had to do a lot of reading on the 3-5 candiates. Realistically Candle, Fritz, and Silverfield are the most likely options. I don't think there is a "grand slam" kind of hire here. Not saying these aren't good options, we have to wait and see.  I personally think Tom Herman could win here but wouldn't be here long if he did. Chryst has proven he would win in the Big Ten. I like that he has been at Texas this last year. Feel like Fritz, Candle, and Silverfield are solid Non-Power 5 options. Personally think Herman and Chryst could have IU winning sooner rather than later. With the others it might be a few years.

I'm not as big of a diehard IU football fan as some of you. I refuse to be the reverse letterman jacket IU Basketball and Notre Dame football fan. I root for all IU teams. All I want is IU football to consistently make a bowl game. I know we hate them, but I'd love it if IU became what UK Football is under Stoops. 7 straight bowls (4-3 record), finished a season in the top 15 twice, produced some solid NFL talent as well. Make IU football enjoyable. I knew when they were up 28-18 on Saturday that they would blow it. They have been so predicatable.

I think Fritz has let people know he is not interested in going anywhere
