Pretty legendary rapper. Basically helped create an entire subgenre of hip-hop around the turn of the century. If we landed him for Hysteria, that's a pretty sweet pull. (For the kids, which obviously is what matters)

Let's get down to it.  Is a rapper from 20 years ago landing us Derik Queen or nah?

No but it’s probably going to create buzz with the 2025, 2026, 2027 recruits that this event is targeting.

Playing the long game is good.  But really, a rapper from 20 years ago?  *I admittedly know nothing about this genre of music*

It’s an interesting dynamic seeing kids at HH that have no interest in the basketball stuff and on the flip side the people that go to HH for the basketball and don’t really care about the entertainment after.   Last we sat by kids just waiting for the basketball events to end looking at their watch every 5 min and then you had my family and I jetting as fast as we could to get out after the basketball events.    Kids were sprinting down from higher up to take our seats.    I’m glad they have stepped up and put some thought into making it a big spectacle for the younger generation however  I don’t need to be around to see it though.

I'm thinking about taking the 4 year old this year and will have him out of there WELL before Gucci comes on lol. I'm guessing it'll be a great crowd.

He isn't really "from 20 years ago", to be clear. Gucci Mane is a huge name in 2023.

Got you.  Nevermind that comment to UPS Guy above then

Well I for one am really bummed.  I know for a fact Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians had an opening in their schedule for HH.  :-(

Rather have Lawrence Welk

People need to embrace this tactic. The way they handled it last year was perfect.   It was at the end and if you want to leave, people can leave.  The kids can “party” and enjoy the vibe.  No harm no foul.

I am a pretty big fan of the rap genre (but also about every genre sans country) and have been for 30 years.  Gucci Mane, I don’t really care for but he’s notable and many really like him.  I imagine the behind the scenes to set this up included talks with what the players think would be cool.

this is smart and modern.  Let’s embrace it.

Yeah hard to describe but he was huge underground 2005 on and is one of the main stylistic antecedents to many of Atlanta’s current stars, as well as the label owner who broke some of them.

I'm slowly starting to get excited about this. I told my 17-year-old that Gucci Mane was playing a month ago, and he told me it's no big deal, he's not a good person. Fast forward to last weekend and I told said 17-year-old that we had wristbands for the floor so he could be up close with the players and Gucci Mane and he said that's great, can I take a friend.
