It’s tough when you have to rebuild a culture. The bottom line is that all of our players have been in a losing program and losing culture. It’s hard to regain when that chain is broken.

I think TJD is a pretty good lead by example guy. But it’s tough as a big when your guards just get cooked on defense. Galloway and Kopp try but neither are better than average on defense. JHS is a frosh. Bates is not good. Our lead by example guy in Xavier has been out most of the season.   It’s just a tough thing to hammer into guys heads when you’re the coach and don’t have guys who can lead on the floor.

I think the staff has already told people and players that Geronimo, Bates and Duncomb are not Big Ten starters. Build around Renau, Banks and Gunn plus the portal

I have some doubts they are even Big Ten players.  But for sure build things around the freshman coming in plus Trey, Malik, and Banks and see what we can get in the portal.

Are you saying the staff has directly said that to JG, Bates and Duncomb?
I agree with the assessment and also won’t be surprised if 2/3 or 3/3 don’t come back.

I’d add Trey to the Renau, Banks and Gunn nucleus.

Trey was a given. I think if it hasn’t been communicated it will be in post season meetings

Tonight is why I don't lose time in life watching games live anymore. Always recorded and watched at 32x unless it looks halfway close. Missed about 10 games this year.. no recording because really, who cares anymore. Purdue was cool but until we actually make a run in the dance, what is there to be excited about? Maybe it's just a hobby that has faded on me now. Gotta go eat my feelings lol

Calls themselves bleedhoosier and takes the time to come to a message board to make sure people they dont know are aware that they often fast forward or don’t watch because they don’t really care is one helluva flex.

Yeah, still hope and wish Gunn stays. He didn’t figure it out this year, and that’s ok. No one expected him to come in and play right away.

Just hope he has patience.

He’s been told he’s a big piece going forward. He won’t make nearly as much anyplace else next season as he will here.

So we only had 9 scholarship players tonight so which 5 do you want to bench and when do you want them to play? Come on man

Not like Penn State game but I’d let the walk ons play. At least maybe they would care. At least we might see effort. That’s all I want win or lose.

You are wise beyond your years. I always enjoy reading your posts and your usually spot on.

Agreed if you’re talking late in the second half. But you have to go with your main guys for most of the game. They’ve earned that even with a bad shoot around

So we are looking at 9 new players next year…. Great….. Portal watch should be fun.

Ha, agreed.

When we have bad games nothing beats the “I’m turning the tv off”, “I’m going to mow the grass”, “I don’t care any more”, “time for bed” etc etc posts.
If you don’t give a shite why bother going onto to a board to post?

I was thinking 10 minutes into the second. If they don’t want to hear what coach preaches then an example has to be made. No passion or effort.

Yep…and not all freshman are ready to play right away like JHS. Banks is clearly one of those that isn’t ready. It’s not his fault. He’s just not a big10 player right now. That doesn’t mean he won’t be. He just hasn’t been good this year.

But he won’t be ready if he doesn’t play big ten competition. In a game like this at least u give him time because no one else cared to try.

Is it as ugly on TV, as it is live?

Wide open threes, uncontested layups, and overall lack of interest.

Oh it was ugly didn't stay for the whole second half left at the under 8 timeout.

Before this game, I thought we had a realistic chance to win the Big Ten tournament. Now that we'll likely be playing Thursday, we can probably forget about it. The Big Ten tournament has been around for ~25 years and I think only three teams won it that had to play four games. There's just such a huge difference in having to win 4 games instead of 3.

I could see Iowa winning it. Probably the best offense in the league when they are on.

Big win at Purdue then get completely stomped at home.  They hit over 50% from deep, we hit sub 19%.  This team could just as easily lose first round of the tourney while looking like they bever belonged as make a little noise.

I'd caution against people thinking Johnson would step in and be a savior; he can be one of the best or the single worst player on the floor, not the type I'd want to just throw into the fire and he won't have much time to get up to speed.

I never expected him to be a JHS type frosh!  I said he will be a good 4 year player.
