That is still a lot more than he can get at IU through NIL

Agreed.  But we are taking about the context of getting the 2nd contract which should be the really big one.  If you’re in the bottom half of the draft, sitting on the bench, or worse relegated to G league, how much development are you getting vs another year playing 30+ mins a night, and leading the team, at a big time college program. JHS has gotten better this  year because he was thrown into the deep end of the pool and he’s playing a lot.

JHS is not staying another year. The buzz in the basketball world is too strong now after his performance at Purdue. He will win BIG 10 Freshman of the Year. And, if Indiana goes far in the tournament it will be because JHS  plays well no matter how well TJD plays.

You go as soon as you'll be getting a large, guaranteed NBA contract. Which is where JHS is.

Him being a one and done is very, very good for IU IMO. Liam McNeeley will take note. Liam is 6'6", skilled, not physically dominant, and playing the point very effectively for Montverde.  In other words, while every player is different, it's incredibly easy for him to see the direct comp between him and JHS. And I would hope that JHS is reporting back to Montverde that he made an excellent decision in choosing IUBB.

This is great stuff. We get a shot at a national championship because JHS is one of our key guys, the talented culture guys like Trey Galloway carry the program torch from year to year, and other top 25 players see that we are a path to being an NBA first round pick.

Perfect.

It is very very good for IU. Another thing overlooked by many is that Xavier came into IU as a completely raw and out of control PG. By the middle/tail end of last season he was DOMINANT and incredibly efficient. Woody can develop guards.

Xavier Johnson

Jalen Hood-Schifino

Trey Galloway

2 years in and each guy has made improvements. I promise you that this is being noticed by the right people.

Nobody in the NBA really cares about IU vs Purdue. And while JHS played amazing, he lived off a bunch of shots—mid range jumpers—most NBA teams don’t care about.

And IF Indiana goes far in the tourney is a big IF.

There’s still a good chance he hangs around for another year. Or maybe he doesn’t and is drafted late and doesn’t care. Who knows…but one game at Purdue isn’t going to vault him from the 2nd round into the lottery.

Your right the nba scouts don’t care about Indiana and Purdue they do care about kids playing great against a team on the road

Lol…so do they care or not?

They’ll care about Purdue like they care about at Maryland, Rutgers, and Kansas. The guys doing the scouting will have all that tape. The one way to make an impression is to get hot in the tourney because there are some eyes higher up in the organization watching that don’t log all the other tape.

These mock drafts tend to move guys a lot because it drivers readership of their articles. In reality, that’s not how it works and JHS will get feedback at the end of the year based on more than a few good games. If he has a real chance at the lottery, I suspect he goes. If he is flirting with dropping to the end of the first and risking a 2nd round pick, he probably should stay.

That and of course he’s been projected in the 1st round for quite a while now. Scouts like him a lot, questions go to what team, what management, who are the guards on roster, what’s their plan for him/development plan, how high in 1st?

You think every freshmen that goes 1 and done is stellar every night?

JHS going in the first round isn't based solely on one game. Could you imagine teams drafting players based on one game? There would be a lot NBA types fired. JHS was on the radar long before the second purdoodoo game.

Yes, he was….as a late 1st round or 2nd round pick.

He’s done a nice job playing past his hs ranking. But the amount of guys that are just better than him plus foreign and G-league players plus athletic projects make it tough to crack the top 15 picks.

I could see it going either way, at this point.

Has nothing to do with 1 and done.

Has everything to do with projection. And if you’re not an elite athlete, and JHS is not, then it helps to be able to dominate the college game in other ways consistently.

Think of last year, Jonny Davis vs Jayden Ivey. Ivey could afford to not be consistent every night, Davis could not. And Davis still went 10 spots lower than Ivey. JHS is more Davis than Ivey, although JHS is more of a prototypical PG than Davis…which helps.

Seriously what is wrong with our fanbase we just beat our rival on the road. And we have posters tearing down the guy who delivered us that win. And in another topic were bending over backwards to insult a local kid who is sticking around instead of transferring where he could get more PT.

I’ll be the first to complain about our faults but we are having a pretty good year considering our PG has played 2 big ten games and we are looking for reasons to insult and diminish our players.  Like why?

Little melodramatic tonight, aren’t we?

It’s a full two days after the game and nobody is “tearing down” anyone. We’re having a discussion about draft position which inevitably involves assessing a player’s individual strengths and weaknesses.

If I were to address “what is wrong” with our fanbase I’d start with fans who result to overly emotional outbursts when every little thing doesn’t go their way.

I’m not emotional but I don’t understand this desire to pretend that JHS is somehow not one of the greatest freshmen in the country this year. All while playing out of position.

He’s the best freshmen PG to play at IU in most of our lives. And here’s the kicker he wasn’t supposed to be a PG.

NBA scouts aren’t going to judge him based on his hit or miss freshmen season playing out of position.

They are going to judge him on his shooting which is streaky but adequate. It’s all levels. And his decision making has improved over the course of the season. And maybe he’s not an elite athlete but he definitely has the ability to be an elite basketball player. I’ll take the basketball player with less athleticism everyday of the week over true elite athlete who can’t put it together and so will the NBA. This reminds me of those vids of Justin smith breaking records in jumping so athletic but didn’t help on the court.

He was recruited to IU to be a pg just a heads up

Honestly has some Derozan to his game, the midrange is underrated, he gets to his spot like an NBA guard and drills the midrange like Derozan. Hell Kobe had a sweet midrange game. He’s also a big guard and already has a man’s body and game.

I’ve no doubt he can succeed in the League, my only questions go to how up and down his season’s been, and who is likely to draft him and at what spot. The same people saying he’s gone, sure fire high first rounder maybe lottery, we’re questioning him after his really off games and saying then he’s not going anywhere. It’s almost comical seeing the rapid opinion swings.
Dude has all the talent, he’ll probably go, but no it’s not a certainty, still many games left. I think he’ll have the choices he wants, but I also would love to see him come back

I believe most people on this board would love for him to come back. He's the type of talent that can lead you deep into March.

You touched on some of the physical attributes and the midrange game. I believe he's shooting better than anticipated from deep too. His defense is already there. I have a feeling he'll test out athletically better than what we've seen. His game isn't athletically based but it's there. His decision making can get questionable at times but it seems others on this team get really hesitant to shoot and he's stepping up.
