Scott wants IU fans to be satisfied with perpetual mediocrity and not raise a fuss about it. His “it’s the fans fault” take is asinine. The fanbase is the best, and only constant, thing the program has going for it. The fans still show up and show out even when the team routinely fails to do so.

Disagree here a bit. The history and nattys remain constant, although we continue to move further from that time and other programs pass us. Being located in an area where you can take recruits from and win remains constant. Just because we've hired coaches who can't figure that out doesn't make it any less true.

I do agree about the fans though. If the money and coaching are equal or close to equal the fans could be the difference to a recruit.

And I really don't like our holier than thou attitude.  It just boils down to something like the following:

IU:  We're not like those other programs

Everyone else: Yeah, you're okay with getting your butts kicked

There is no doubt a large contingent of this fanbase that has a moral superiority/elitist complex. The program is a laughing stock to everyone other than IU fans.

Well we have blamed everything else and changed every other position so what is the problem. We have chang coaches many times in both sports, we have changed AD's many times. The administration is totally different so in your opinion why is Indiana basketball stuck in mediocrity. Our current coach and AD has only been on the job a couple of years so why not be patient with them to see what they can do.

How long was our current AD around the university/program before becoming our AD?

Good thing those fans don't pay attention or know what has been going on at the university level for "fundraising."

To add onto this, a good portion of our fanbase is still badly out of touch with where the program is right now and how it's perceived. I actually saw comments earlier this week saying we'd get Iowa's best shot because everyone always circles the IU game on their calendar. In 1992, yeah. Now? Hardly. Purdue and Illinois probably would, but we're just another game for everyone else. These people are always 20-30 years behind the rest of the world. I can't think of any other fanbase, in any sport, that has this.

Did get to a Final Four a couple years back, but ...

Bottom line you need an elite coach and we fired one for excessive phone calls. Haven’t had one since

Phone calls wasn't the problem for Sampson but it was he brought in pimps and drug dealers. Guys who didn't go to class and had 19F's. Sampson shod have never been hired. If our president at the time didn't make the AD hire him we could have had Beilein.

Then tell him he needs to bring in cleaner kids and work with him, don’t fire him and nuke the program in the aftermath. We could’ve been Houston, but being able to preen about our moral superiority is a nice consolation prize.

You have your opinion and I have mine which is fine but fore Sampson shouldn't have ever been hired.

Because he’s good at his job?

O because he doesn't follow rules and was in already on probation. He was on local radio the day they announced his hiring and was a total jerk to the host.

The so called "rules" that the NCAA doesn't even care about, despite being the ones that wrote and are supposed to enforce them.  If they don't even care then those "rules" are worth the paper they're written on.

He basically did the NCAA equivalent of jaywalking. You probably think Harbaugh should be fired for buying a recruit a burger.
