I wouldn’t even call it hate. Realistically, to be a team ranked in the teens we need about 2 of 5 or 6 realistic things to happen. If we get more than that, maybe we can over achieve. But if none of it happens—which is unlikely but definitely a real possibility—we’re the same fringe tourney team we were last year.

Need to point out to Coach that Reneau did, in fact, get the tip.

And that from that opening tip, he was not at all nervous.

Ya: “Don’t lie to me. In your first college game y’all gonna be nervous.”

vs.

Woody: “Well again, I can’t have my freshmen being nervous. Son, we need you right away.”

I’m with Woody..

If we are a fringe tourney team this year then a TON went wrong.

certainly possible but man that would be a huge disappointment!

Damon Bailey may be in the house for the exhibition game against St. Francis.  His son Brayton is a  sophomore on the St. Francis team and a likely starter.

Agreed, but IU has specialized in "huge disappointments" the last 20yrs.

No excuses this season though. I don't think they are top 10 quality, but are an experienced, talented team competing in a down conference, so should be a winner.

Either that or IU has been overrated in the pre-season polls. I think the team will be good and easily make the tourney.  But we still have a serious flaw--namely reliable 3-point shooters. As good as the recruiting class was, IU did not bring in a sharp shooter.  Fans are pointing to a good showing in an exhibition game against a weak opponent as proof that perimeter shooting will be significantly better than it has been. We need to wait until the competition is more serious before jumping to any conclusions about our shooting.

I base the improved shooting in a large part on what Woody has said. Woody doesn't do a lot of sugar-coating. For instance, he says that Trayce will still take very few threes, and he doesn't comment on Jalen's three point shooting or whether X can sustain his high make rate from last year.

He does say that Kopp, Bates, and Race will be improved distance shooters. He repeats it regularly, and he says it in a way that shows he means it, not just that he hopes so.

I hope Woodson is right. He also said last year that players were hitting their 3s in practice but not in games.

That was also true -- hope he doesn't say that again. I don't know how many times last year I was watching an IU game and my arms went in the air as the offense produced a WIDE open look (especially at the end of the year) for Bates, Kopp, or Stewart, only to watch it clank away.

For Stewart's last 15 games as a Hoosier, he was 9-30 from three (30%), Bates was 11-38 (29%), and Kopp was 8-29 (28%).

For the same time period, Phin was 41%. X and Race were also above 40% for those games.
