We appear to be getting a touch breathless here. 2 things: 1) when you’re recruiting against the biggest of big dogs, those guys aren’t who they are because they bail on recruitments if things look dicey. They’re relentless. When IU is in with KU, Duke, UK, on a kid they’re all gonna be like this. Fland’s endgame will be the same. 2) Kids are kids and KU’s KU, so it’s gonna go to the finish line. And I don’t pretend to have any inside knowledge at all, but I’m a pretty good tea leaf reader and I’ve watched this one more closely than any recruitment in the last several cycles. To believe it’s KU, you would have to believe the things this kid has said for the last year that he is looking for and values is crap. As a matter of fact, his comment about IU being there non-stop throughout his process strikes me as both a compliment to our staff and a bit of a slap at KU’s, who offered and then really weren’t overtly in the picture for several months, before ratcheting thing up later. I’ll believe the kid isn’t coming when he announces he’s not, not until.

Peegs is melting down lol. Would be really disappointing to lose this one however I don't think there is anything else IU could have possibly done better. I think we get him but it's not on the staff if we don't.

I don't understand the meltdown. Peegs reported that this was going to happen on Monday or Tuesday. Which is why I was confused Trilly and others said it was going to be IU, but they obviously know something good. I don't like Bill Self being around either, but it is what it is.

No sorry. They said on Monday or Tuesday that Bill Self was likely to visit this week (it appears it happened last night). So this isn't a surprise.

I see IU fans on X freaking out...Boogie just named us in his top 3, heavy heavy favorite for Liam, and in good shape for Queen. Do people not understand that this is how it goes for 5 star recruits? It isn't easy at all. Staff is doing a great job. Just need to close which I think they will.

Gotcha. Yeah I wouldn’t worry yet. We already knew Self was coming, was there, and an “in-home” at Montverde…maybe family was there or FaceTimed in, but he’s already there. Is that just, like, visiting Liam’s dorm room?

Pretty confident he never liked the Trilly tweet, because it would’ve been huge chatter fodder if he had

Self won't just give up. I would hope the staff makes another trip to see him if they can, especially since Montverde produces a lot of talent anyway. When we're after recruits of this caliber we have to get used to a dog fight.  The fact he hasn't set a decision date tells us he's not decided on a school yet.

Most of those freaking out are doing so because we have not had regular success with getting 5* high school commits.  History cannot be ignored but hopefully we can change history.  We seem to be in really good shape but as you said, Woody needs to close the deal.  Second place in recruiting is terrible.  It is really worse than being eliminated early because we have all the efforts in a few kids and if you lose out you are in scramble mode.

No reason for anyone to freak out. We know he likes IU a lot. Self was always going to try to make a last push. He’s pretty snakey so I wouldn’t put anything past him but as noted above, beating UK, KU, Duke etc for 5* talent is where we need to be, where we are at and just need to close - hopefully it is enough

I don't think there's any reason to freak out until actual concrete info is given to make people freak out. However, Monday was a total tease lol made it seem like it was about to pop haha.
