Well coach answered why all of the starters got yanked. Apparently he didn’t think they were playing well!

Probably missed Phinisee defensively today. X has been a decent stop gap but just lack guards and wings capable of playing at a consistent high  level.

Yeah, good point, and there’s a compounding effect to X having the toughest defensive assignment all day on the other end.

They both are likely to lose all of their uniquely good players: Ivey, TWilliams, Edey (maybe)… Kofi, Frazier, DWilliams.

They'll just replace them with other dudes and we'll be saying the same thing next season. That's life as an IU basketball fan.

I agree , Rob may be offensively inconsistent but he always brings it on the defensive end. This team could of really used him today.

2 things stood out to me, 1 has to get corrected for our offense to get to the level needed for IU to compete for the top of the conference and good NCAA tourney runs — 

1. Significant increase in 3-point shooting, as in USE the 3-point shooters we have and build shooting from the arc, play inside out, don’t just go back to running O down through TJD when facing dominant bigs.

- compare, IU 3-13 from arc. We’re still shooting from deep towards the bottom of the B1G, with

Ill 10-23. So they shot 10 more 3’s and ended up 44%. That’s ball game right there. How many 3’s did Kopp take? 0 in 16 minutes. Why is he starting? Stew hit 2-4, we should be using his outside game more.

2. We are missing Rob defensively and for his potential to spark the O like against PU.

Yes, the offense is awfully constructed/utilized. Yes, why have two guys out there playing starter roles that are really only good at shooting that rarely shoot? They aren’t good defenders and aren’t good at much else so if they aren’t shooting in volume then they aren’t useful

Trayce will go to the NBA this year but he will be outmatched physically every game similar to today.  Why he can't develop a jumper we'll never know.  

3 point shooting needs to be better.  At some point the starting lineup needs to be adjusted if we aren't going to run plays to get Kopp and Stewart looks.

No I haven't that's why I was asking you.  I knew he had an assistant wrapped up in the FBI sting at OK State, but what happened with Dickburn and Ayo recruiting?   I really do want to join in your lead here.

Illinois got away with a lot of travels.  Probably wouldn't have mattered but they were consistently shuffling their feet on the catch before putting it on the floor.

Also a couple of replays of Kofi in the block were funny if you were watching his feet.  He moves his pivot foot often.

IU’s wings are mostly compromise players (pick either defense, ball-handling, or shooting, almost never more than one of the three), it has one dependable guard. That’s a recruiting and development issue. I think we’ve all been pretty pleased with what CMW and co. have done so far but you’re pretty limited on how quickly you can build.

By contrast, Illinois has three dudes who’ve played a ton of games for U of I who are great in their roles (Kofi, Frazier, Williams), and pretty much everyone who plays with those three is a good shooter and defender (they may not do much else; Plummer adds some ball-handling and gives back some D).

Illinois has a roster that fits their program and coach, and it worked today. IU is still building.

Very true and it seems we all may lose sight of that!  I’ve got a feeling this roster will be much improved my year 3!

Something to think about:  Purdue's defense is 105th now.  That's below Iowa.

I think Illinois is more difficult to beat because they bring it on both sides of the court.  Purdue is the #1 offensive efficiency team in the nation, but that have kept some teams around because they lack defense.  

Food for thought:  Purdue is 0-3 when scoring less than 70 points, 20-0 when scoring 70 or more.  As good as they are, they've only beaten three teams in conference by double digits:  Nebraska, Minnesota, and Northwestern.  By comparison, IU has 5 double digit wins in Big Ten play.  Obviously Purdue is much better than IU, but the point is they have not been running away from opponents.  They are outscoring them.
