I agree, and Frazier is really good. Illinois doesn’t really help in ballscreen defense, so my expectation comes from a place where Kofi/Frazier are playing ballscreen D 2-on-2. They’re good at it. I think X keeps it around the screen a lot and uses his wiles to get to the rim or get Kofi in foul trouble.

It may not be a big scoring game, but if he doesn’t force shots and limits TOs, he can have a big impact making good reads.

On the other hand, Stew will be guarded by Plummer likely? One of the worst defensive guards in the B1G since noted bad chair guarder Jimmy Blackmon? Let’s get him firing early and often.

My guess is that we will see TJD on the perimeter far more than usual. Illinois only has one rim protector and he'll be guarding Trayce. If we can get Kofi switched onto X and send Trayce in as a cutter we are in a very good place.

Also, if Trayce is the 'out-big', Race in the post against Grandison becomes a great matchup for us.

I'm hoping Bates brings it -- he's kind of a wild card. 0-6 last game, not typical, after the game before had him looking like he was getting back on track. With the personal issues he had to go through and the intensity of B1G play he's sort of hit that Frosh wall - hope he punches through it, has the ability to make a difference.

Bates is way overdue.  Kid can shoot but has struggled as you say.  Would be great to see him have a day.

Bates is rushing his shots. That's what makes them bad shots. He needs to get a couple of put-backs and layups to help get his confidence back and get him in the flow of things better before he throws up 3-point shots.

I'm not judging Bates by how many shots go in -- that will come in time and in bunches.

I thought that Tamar had one of his  most connected/best games defensively against Maryland.

He didn't hit a shot and still played 17 minutes (with only one turnover). Being on the court when his shots aren't falling is a good sign that he's no longer a defensive liability.

Even in places like Minnesota where it seems like they get snow like this every other week they don’t really move games. I’d be surprised if it doesn’t get played Saturday. Illinois should be able to come in late on Friday, worst case. Could make for a bad crowd for unfortunate reasons like yours though.

Iowa at Ohio State postponed due to weather today.

I think Race is the wildcard.  If he can continue hitting 3’s, that will really open things up!  Also, his ability to post will help too.

Bench play, I say Bates and/or Geronimo

Agree with this to an extent. He’s shuffling and side stepping into every 3 point attempt, even when open. Not great mechanics. All makeable shots, he’s just added an unnecessary degree of difficulty. Maybe he’s “rushed” and this footwork is his attempt to gain space. Generally unnecessary when he does it. Love him as a player. Want him getting extra minutes. He’ll figure it out.

I mentioned this on HSN, but this will Kofi Cockburn and co’s first time ever playing in AH with a crowd. Last 3 matchups with this crew:

At Illinois (March 2020)

At Illinois (December 2020)

Home game (February 2021)

This could be absolutely nothing, since Illinois has some new additions, but something to think about

Durr will play

That’s good news. I’m skeptical that not playing at all for two games was solely because of matchups (Harrar of PSU, Duncan played against MD?) but in any case just having a big body leaning on Kofi will be helpful.
