For a season opening thread, we are sure digging up some nightmares. I'd rather leave those bodies buried and look forward to a bright future.

Well said!  Let’s put those old and crappy memories in the rear view mirror and look forward to this season.

I think this team has the real potential to be better than all the expectations as long as CMW and staff can pull it all together.

I am looking forward to seeing players actually get better throughout the year instead of digressing!

I have noticed that the NBA coaches are no longer wearing suites.  I have never understood why basketball coaches ever wore suites in the first place.

Since Clifton Moore wasn't on that team, you did spell it wrong.  Curtis Jones hit a big three.

Worth mentioning that Eastern Michigan was 15 of 51 from three against Oakland and.....Goshen College.  Goshen college is an NAIA school who was 3-24 last year.

Well back when I was a sophomore in high school one of our players mother died in a cat wreck.  In the sectional against New Castle one of their players was talking about the players mother.  That player was going up for a layup when one of our players just shoved him into the first row.

To be fair 3-24 Goshen was better than you think last year as they only lost to Indiana Wesleyan by 52 points and Marian by 48.

When you've got a bunch of 22 and 23 year olds in there, you've got a group that has been pumped up as the next big thing and had life smack them upside the head, only to have to get up again. Every single player in our starting five has been in that position:

• TJD a five star who even with some big successes has lost a lot of games and isn't on draft boards yet
• Kopp was one of NW's highest rated recruits ever, came into a first-time NCAA appearance, and saw them decline precipitously
• Race lost about two years to redshirt, concussions, and other injuries, and lost the coach that recruited him
• X was on draft boards after a very successful freshman year, and watched his and Capel's fortunes decline at Pitt
• Parker lost his dad, who he left Pitt to play under after a really good freshman ACC campaign

These are talented guys that should play with the edge of someone who's been spat on once or twice.

The more I’ve thought about it over the summer, I’ve come to a similar conclusion as you. There’s some upside to this team that maybe isn’t being given its full due. 
 

Otoh, all those qualities could easily lead to a disjointed team that doesn’t play well together and is less than the sum of their parts. For example, I think the aforementioned recipe would inevitably lead to disaster under a guy like Crean or Davis.  
 

I’m usually good to give a coach a few years before coming to any conclusions. But in this new world of constant transfers and nli recruiting everyone has to adjust. We may find out a lot about Woody by the end of the year. I’m cautiously optimistic Woody is the type of guy to take all that and put a cohesive product on the floor by the middle of the year. I also expect many bumps and bruises along the way, especially in Nov/Dec.
 

Hope springs eternal and I am once again excited for the start of Indiana Hoosier basketball.

I'm pretty sure the only college basketball game actually played on an aircraft carrier was the MSU/UNC game, probably about 10 years ago.

Edit: Yes, that game was in 2011. Syracuse and San Diego State also played a game on one in 2012. Wind had an effect on at least that game, but I think both. Not great playing conditions.
