I thought the wording was questionable, as well. We have the luxury of having a veteran pg coming back, but I have no fear if Woody had to give Gabe the keys to the car, earlier than expected. If XJ and Jakai can stay/get healthy, and CJ improves like we've heard,  I really like the XJ, Gabe, Trey, CJ, Jakai backcourt parts.

People didn’t really expect Smith to be ready or able right away either until they started practicing and Painter saw he was their best option.

Cupps could be similar.

I’ve watched a fair amount of Cupps and I’m never really wowed. Smith is for sure the more tenacious player. Cupps, plays a little smoother but I’d like to see the intensity up a notch. The ball handling is probably ready, but I want to see it with my own 2 eyes at the college level to be certain.

That was an underestimated aspect of JHS game. He handled the ball very well for a freshman despite the 2-3 WTF passes he would make per game.

I wanted BF as much as anyone, but I've been high on Gabe for a long time. A sophomore Cupps, with a year of tutelage from a 6th year, very talented and physical XJ, might make it very difficult for anyone to come in and take his spot ,for those 3 years. Not sour grapes, in regards to Boogie, just know GC is a winner!

Not sure, I wouldn't really care if he did though. He showed us next to nothing, IMO, last season.

He was a freshman who was forced into playing minutes he wasn't ready for.    Can't blame him for that.

I don't think anyone wants him to leave. He just needs to be a lot better. He's great as our 11th-13th guy... I just wouldn't be upset, if he got upset and left.

few turnovers and decent three point shooting percentage weren't bad.  It's not like he was C.J. Gunn as a freshman.  If Cupps had been playing second minute units he wouldn't have been exposed defensively like he was.

He also has been an incredibly team first guy who has went out of his to help in recruiting.
