Couldn't agree more with this assessment and like the Franklin comparison from frosh to soph. Bates is flat out more talented than Franklin, and you don't go 40% in your junior and senior years of HS ball and not be able to transition to good shooting in college. Do think he'll get there, he has boatloads of talent.

I agree and think that whether or not TB makes the next step is one of the biggest keys to the success of next season.
We really need TB and/or JG to turn into “starter minutes” type of players. If they do, with their athleticism, we are going to have a blast next season.

I thought Franklin was a miles better defender.

Love me some Bates though! I pray his beautiful baby girl is focusing him even more! Fellas on the team will adore her!

You know Coach Woodson will have that girl an IU uni ready to go, or maybe Coach Moren!

Kenya Hunter was on the Hoosier Hysterics podcast last week and made it clear that Tamar Bates is the player that he expects to have a major jump. Also made it seem as if Tamar would be in the guard rotation.

I wonder if he can start alongside X, with JHS as the primary alternate at both the one and two guard spots.

That would allow for a starting lineup of TJD, Race, JG, TB, and X. Tons of length, athleticism, and better shooting.

TB making a jump would explain a lot of our strategy in the transfer portal, right?

In the big picture, a non-frosh who was formerly a highly-regarded recruit is a great guy to have around in a role where realizing his potential really raises your team’s ceiling.

Yessssss!!!!!

Seriously, if both Bates and JG take that real step up we’re going to be very good

Zero question. Just absolutely no question. Yes yes yes!

... and an effect.. the two 5 star FR can simply play their own role early. Grow and expand on that role mid Feb. This is what good programs do, flat out. Develop, coordinate classes, splash on a 5 star.. or two, have depth.

We might be top 20 without TJD anyway... if those two take a leap.
