Take a second and go look at the coaches who have hired him—paid him good money for his coaching services—in the NBA. Multiple championship coaches and several known as top Xs and Os guys have thought Wodson was a good addition to their staff.  
 

Unless you’re anonymously Greg Popovich secretly posting here, Ima have a hard time taking your assessment here seriously. 
 

(And even though I’m defending an iu guy on an iu board, I still feel compelled to say, he’s not my ideal candidate either.)

This portion of your post, particularly the bolded word, is the most important part. We're not talking about our head coach adding him to the staff. The conversation would be completely different if we were. We're talking about making him the head coach.

Don't make me change my profile picture to Woodson. He won't be named the next head coach. I'm trying to keep Alford away from here for the stake of the Indiana Basketball program with my current profile picture!

 

On a serious note, come on. He's an Indiana great -- OK. BUT HE WOULDN'T BE CONSIDERED IF HE NEVER PLAYED HERE. 

He's never coached college basketball. He's never recruited college basketball. He's too old school. He's long in the tooth. I don't trust this hire. I really couldn't support it. I think our fan base would be at each others necks with this hire.

 No... we’re talking about if he’s a respected basketball coach by some of the best coaches in the world. He is.  
 

Nobody is seriously considering a 63yr old with no college experience for the IU job. You can separate the two things. Just like some don’t want him here, most of the candidates IU has left couldn’t get an interview for most of the jobs Woodson has had.

I agree it’s silly. But maybe because they know everyone wanted Stevens. So let’s say if they get a Beard it’ll look way better now because “they were considering Woodson.”

I believe IMO since the tourney is in our state, he still may be coaching currently in the tournament. If it got out we were looking at them, they wouldn’t get any questions except about being linked with the job which would only cause distractions for them. 
 

That’s the only reason I can come up with.

FWIW, the boards I was on during our last coaching search also had Woodson as potentially getting hired when we hired Miller last time.  Obviously didn't turn out that way.  So far it's been Stevens, now Woodson....probably about ten more rumors away from when we hire.  And if IU was set on hiring Woodson, just like Beilen, there is nothing preventing them from having already announced it.

Not sure how you would know this.  Old doesn't necessarily mean old school and young doesn't necessarily mean being able to see eye to eye with young players.
