You posted Otzelberger and qualified it with an opinion (very possibly a correct one!) that he very likely would not leave Ames, you left off McCollum and McDermott and placed Brownell on the second tier by himself and then took a shot at IU fans for vastly overvaluing the job. I don't think the two things are "nearly identical" but alrighty. Still, I'm sure some on his Discord are calling him an idiot and continuing to tell him that it's Brad Stevens and he's a fool for not believing it or that Scott Drew's friend from 30 years ago told them Scott Drew was definitely never leaving Waco...I'm just guessing he did not get a whole lot of "wow, this is really encouraging and I love this list" positive feedback on the internet because that's generally not how it works, unfortunately.

I put Brownell in a tier above McCollum and Byington because Brownell is at least an older and experienced coach. The other two are younger and it's not exactly a secret that Dolson prefers older, experienced coaches.

No doubt, but in a world where Scott Drew (and more importantly his wife) don't want to uproot their lives and everything they've built in Waco coupled with Otzelberger being perfectly content Ames, Brad Brownell becomes a much more realistic candidate than 95% of people on this board want to believe. All that I was alluding too this morning. I definitely see a scenario where Scott Drew and TJ Otzelberger pass on the IU job, in fact, in wouldn't surprise me in the least.

It wouldn't surprise ANYONE in the least if Otz or Drew passed on the IU job (if they were actually offered). Both have non-basketball-related reasons that could keep them in their current conditions.

Drew passed on the Kentucky job last year.He loves being at a Christian college. Of course he might pass on IU, as Kentucky has been a much better job over the past 25 years (at least) than the IU job.

And Otz's wife played at Iowa State, so who knows if he will ever leave Ames?

Just guessing of course

Theroretically speaking,.....in the grand scheme of things, when would it be in Stevens best interest to make it known that he is accepting the IU job? Or, does he just wait it out, like any other potential coach would, till the final buzzer sounds and IU is finally eliminated?

I mean, if he does actually take it, he needs to figure out who he wants to keep and go out and get. You would think some of this would factor in. I don't know.

A Mike Woodson hire followed by a Brad Brownell hire would be a harder one-two punch to the gut than anything Muhammad Ali could ever dream of landing.

Don’t forget we also hired Archie right before Woodson.

I kinda think you are underestimating the chances of Drew and Otzelberger.

Which would be great news for IU.

Brownell is realistic only because he would 100% accept the offer.

I think Drew has a much better chance than Otzelberger although Drew just turned down Louisville and Kentucky last year. I do think Baylor struggling this year may signal that Drew has achieved all that he can at Baylor but if his wife is as ardent as some say she is, she may be running the show.

Honestly wouldn't be shocked to see Drew coach another year or two at Baylor and retire. Not like he couldn't if he wanted too.

Hmm...I seem to have posted nearly an identical list several hours ago and got crucified for it. Let's see if Trilly loses his base and is called delusional.

Word is he used your post as his source...

The Archie hire at least made sense at the time. He was one of the top “up and comers,” he succeeded at Dayton, and he would’ve gotten another P5 job if we didn’t hire him (possibly Ohio State). It ended up being a disaster, but it at least didn’t feel doomed to fail immediately. The Woodson hire was an immediate “WTF is IU doing” hire and Brownell would be too.

Fair enough...that is a good point and very possibly correct. Perhaps I was too literal about picking apart the "identical" assertion in your original post when there were multiple differences. I hope it does not get beyond "tier one", although I admit to personally liking Brad Brownell more than most (for many reasons...some on the court and some off of it) and I am curious about Ben McCollum.

I think it would really help to have a separate Brad Stevens thread.

There was a Candidate thread for Steven’s back in 2021, don’t know what happened to it
