c'mon on down Mick.  You are the chosen one to get us to the rd of 64 every year at a minimum with some sweet 16s and an occasional final four.  Better than the current HC and prior HC at IU can say year after year.

Pitino is 72 going on 73 and just beat McDermott to take commanding lead in Big East.  I think Pearls timeline could be 7-10 years as well. Not saying best hire just think using his age and thinking he is only a 4-5 yr bridge isn’t necessarily accurate.  And do believe IU would be in a GREAT position when he did walk away.

And better than Crean. Better than Sampson at IU since he didn’t make it two full years. And better than Davis. As unexciting as he is, Cronin would be the best hire since Sampson and probably have the best tenure since Knight. That’s not high praise for Cronin. I think it applies to many potential candidates this cycle.

I found the recent polling done to be very interesting.  The results showed that 66% of the voters would want Todd Golden as their next coach at IU and only 44% would want Beard.  Golden was accused a University Title IX violation for sexually stalking, harassing, and sending unwanted di@k pics to women on social media.  The university investigated and said that he did not violate Title IX.  Because of privacy reasons around Title IX that is all the University of Florida said.  It did not say these things did not happen, just that he did not violate Title IX.  The University of Florida took several months to investigate and eventually backed Golden. 

Beard was accused and arrested for hitting and biting his girlfriend during an argument.  Beard said he was defending himself, and his girlfriend at the time claims that was true and she did not think Beard was trying to harm her.  Charges were not filed against Beard.  The University of Texas was reactionary and suspended and fired Beard rather quickly.  

I don't think IU would or should hire either one.  There are enough good coaches without hiring someone with this type of baggage.  I'm just interested why Golden is not being held to the same standards as Beard.  Were voters not familiar with the complaints?  

Not going into this beyond the bold, just a FYI. He was charged with third degree felony assault by strangulation/suffocation-family violence. The charges were dropped two months later. 

To the top paragraph, you do make a good point. The Golden stuff does sound pretty slimy. Harassment at worst, conduct totally unbecoming at best. 

Both are very good coaches, neither will be considered due to the above. If i was gonna guess, Golden would have a better shot at consideration than Beard since kept his job.

agree.  it's not a sexy hire like most will want, but he's got a higher floor (consistent tourney appearances year over year for quite some time) with solid upside still(sweet 16s/final 4).

Somewhere in this thread, many pages ago, it was said Cronin wants out of LA. I'll pass on him if any of that's true. I want a coach who takes this job because he wants it, not because he's looking for a way out.

The right candidate to wait? Why bring this up at all? If it’s a current coach that’s going to justify whacking your coach midseason of course they’re going to have to wait. At least, most likely until mid/late March after their tourney run. Why write that paragraph at all? All current coaches are going to have roughly the same amount of time to assemble a roster.

Watching Drake yesterday I noticed a couple things. Numero uno, the play was slow, but not as mind numbing as the numbers seemed to make it out. Shot a lot of threes, ran nice actions to get easy baskets. Maybe 8 years of watching people stand around dribbling and no one moving or cutting has corrupted my opinion of "methodical offense."

Number two, the defense plays very hard. I know they lost (cross him off the list!), but I came away pretty impressed. McCollum is going to win somewhere P5. Wish more of their games were on TV where I am.

 I enjoy visiting LA as a tourist.  I would not enjoy living there with the expenses needed on a day to day basis
