General Coach Candidate News

I'm probably wrong as usual, but I think there will be a negotiated buyout and the $10 million figure becomes a moot point.  There's no way Archie can be satisfied with his performance and he's got to see that barring a whole bunch of "ifs" it won't be that much better next year.  He won't have to worry about being unemployed unless he simply wants to take some time away from the game.  He'll have coaching options available.  As for leaving money on the table by refusing to leave without the full $10 million option, I just don't see that happening unless he's a lesser man than I think he is.  Last year and this year can't have been good for his personal life and I think he resigns and walks away from IU.
It looks like it's taken a toll on him. He visibly looks defeated.

I think that could be a reality. Unless he knows something that we aren’t seeing, next year doesn’t project to be a smashing success and that would be the only reason for him to want to return. He has to know next year will be rough on the court and off and that isn’t healthy for anyone

I can see Archie and IU parting ways, but with a lessened buyout. He can't be happy and it sure seems pretty obvious that the situation is  untenable. And I think he's still very hireable. At the same time, I don't think it makes him a lesser man if he insists on the full buyout. A contract is a contract -- both sides agreed to it. From my view in the cheap seats, Archie has been a pretty good employee. He hasn't embarrassed us off the court, has seemingly been a good ambassador for the program (except, obviously, the on-court record) and even gave money back to the university during the pandemic. He just hasn't won enough. Archie might not have had the greatest of results here, but I'd argue that he's a much better man than Crean and Sampson combined.

Not a lawyer but you could negotiate it down AND eliminate it if he gets another job. It already offsets a new job’s salary, but especially if he has a desire to get right back out there and prove himself, or has ideas about his next spot, maybe he can negotiate a lump sum and get on with it

That was something the staff was pushing that they were going to bring in a big time transfer or transfers. Maybe hoping that would give them another year.

Someone should tell the staff that hope isn’t a strategy to improve and until those players enter the portal and say they are coming to IU that’s all that is. That’s a bad last ditch effort IMO.

What’s the chances Celtics let go of Stevens after next year and we hire a new coach this year? I want him here so bad, I hope a little luck can be on our side this time. We need to get this hire right. Who ever we pick that doesn’t fall under a home run hire, will be here a minimum of 3-4 seasons regardless.

The Celtics won’t ever Fire Brad Stevens. It will be Brads decision to leave. I’m sure he’s aware how bleak their future will be and the potential of Tatum and Brown leaving. Scott needs to call Brads agent and see what the chances are.

This time next week we may not have a head basketball coach.

I honestly can’t tell if this is a trolling bit or not. I’m leaning toward yes, because you’re a smart poster. The Celtics have two all-star wings under 25 signed to long-term contracts. If the Celtics have a ‘bleak’ future then about 25 of the 30 NBA teams have bleak features and their coaches should walk away from their jobs. Maybe we can hire one of them.

“Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?” https://iufilmroom.com/2020-21/indiana-under-archie-miller-its-time-to-move-on/

Hilarious. I had the pleasure of traveling to Ann Arbor for the IU game with some buddies in 2017.

Walking out of the Crisler Center with our heads down, a kind usher stopped us and hit us with the same Mrs. Lincoln line. We couldn’t help but laugh!

Give me fife alford chris mack Enfield hell give me anybody but archie non of those are my top picks just making the point I will take anybody and pray they work i will support anything but archie. I liked archie I thought guaranteed homerun hire. I thought first game against st and the beat down by ipfw were learning curves for him i was wrong. Perimeter defense has been horid all 4 years anybody who has shooters that can make a three can beat us cause we don't defend it well and even if we do and they make several we don't make enough to combat it. Worst coaching i have witnessed at iu.
