But if he pushes it on players thats where the issue is.. In N out for example has scripture on the cups and other utensils.. The owners are very very religious.. However they do not force that religion onto the people who work at the company... But they treat their employees very very well (and pay really really well for a fast food job) My point was more that Crean seemed to have that particular "bend", but I never saw anyone posting or saying that he was "too religious" or that there was any proselytizing going on at Marquette (catholic university) or a secular liberal institution of higher learning (Indiana or Georgia)... There is being religious, and then BEING RELIGIOUS, to the point where you try to push it onto the players/ staff etc... Thats where this becomes an issue (especially with recruits) because some may find that offputting especially since there are many flavors of religion (Judaism, Islam, etc) I give zero ***** about the religion/beliefs of our coach... I just dont want them to push it on the players... The same goes for political beliefs... Don't you think the players and their families know what they are getting if they go play for Coach Drew. In fact, I would venture to say those players and families are seeking that "type" of coaching and mentoring from a coach if they play for Coach Drew. Coach Drew's religious practices apparently have not hurt his abilities to build championship winning teams at Baylor. I don't think it would have any hindrance to his ability to build championship teams at Indiana. CSP, Kentuckysucks, pumpfake and 3 others 6

It's not the religion, it's the zealot factor. Drew used to do his in person recruiting (not on the road) in the pews of his church. I read an article about his behavior and bible thumping with his teams, really not how a true Christian should act (or, at least pump himself up as a upright person). As the husband to a pastor, using religion as a virtue signal absolutely pisses me off. Chris007, AkronHoosier, Ctf9 and 8 others 8 1 2

Popular Post PartyintheVillas Posted March 4 Popular Post Posted March 4 Would the same people be ok with a heavily religious Muslim coach who preached Islam to the team? I actually don't think I have a problem with Scott Drew's "religiousness." I actually had a good friend who was an assistant for him at Valpo. There was a lot of talk but the actions were not as true to the word we'll say. I think some of it is for image and PR, which can help win fans in the South and Midwest, and definitely in Indiana. Religion is being used in this country right now as a weapon at times and a shield at times though, so I'm a little sensitive about it, admittedly. Ctf9, JStreetBumpin15, mamasa and 11 others 14

Agree or disagree with his beliefs, blurring the lines of personal belief and team dynamics is a risk that IU institutionally may not wish to take. Then again there’s always Al Davis—“just win baby” Only matters if he can’t get recruits. I don’t see that PartyintheVillas and rcbowla 2
