General Coach Candidate News

Not very hung up on a vague Goodman tweet. All he has to say is "That was my take when I said it. Things must have changed."

That doesn't make Stevens any more or less likely, but Goodman's tweet isn't especially relevant to me.

And I think that's the reason they put it out there almost ASAP as soon as tidbits were coming from the IU side. Now he's had plenty of time for a change of heart ;)

It’s only relevant if Brad actually said those words, “I am not a candidate”….if he actually said that, that sounds pretty final to me. It sounds like someone reached out to see if he had interest and he said no?

Let’s debate something we can actually resolve before the NCAAT, since no one on this board, the interwebs, or the outer sphere has a “con-flabbin” clue who the next coach will be or has an actual say in any of this. So…top 10 Westerns:

1) The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

2) The Searchers

3) Once Upon a Time in the West

4) Stagecoach

5) Django Unchained

6) Shane

7) The Outlaw Josey Wales

8) Rio Bravo

9) The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

10) The Magnificent Seven

Now tell me why Unforgiven, either True Grit, the rest of the Dollars trilogy, Tombstone, The Wild Bunch, Ben McCollum and the Sundance Kid, High Noon, Blazing Saddles (or others) should replace anything on this list.

The Revenant, The Hateful Eight, Dances with Wolves and the best of all...

Blazing Saddles!!!

Not that anyone should care, but I'd just like to revise that the CBB media folks I know are now saying Brad is not a firm "no."  Still a long-shot, but there is small chance in their view.  That's not a big improvement, but it's something.

It seems anytime I've heard any media folks mention that about Brad it's because of that Goodman tweet though, no?  Do they cite other reasoning or is it because "Jeff said so"?

I will say this; Trilly has plenty of sources and is quite good at developing more sources. If someone like Drew or Cronin was already heavily in the mix I'd expect that he'd have a little vibe by now.

THIS , it’s what I keep coming back to . Look at last year . Both Rabjohns and Trilly said that if IU moves from Woodson Pearl was all but a done deal he would take the IU job and it would be quick and easy . Pearl was still in the middle of a very successful season Auburn .

These guys have other sources around IU they use to form their viewpoint.

Unfortunately for IU fans . Jeff and Brad are I guess pretty familiar/ have a good relationship with one and other . Jeff got to know Brad going back to his Butler assistant days . And Goodman is also from the New England area he got to ask the question that lead to the mass hole quote in 2021 on zoom that’s why people take Jeff’s word for it . Brads been out of college hoops a while and no other college hoops reporter has a closer relationship with Stevens .

according to Rabjohns take it with a grain of salt of course he heard from “NBA guys” whatever that means . So not sure how close to Brad . That IU should focus its attention elsewhere. But again pretty vague and ambiguous stuff that’s why I’m willing to remain intrigued.

Not a western in the sense of a "cowboy" movie... but The Three Amigos has to make the list... as does Unforgiven

I'm surprised this isn't a bigger deal for some. Trilly who is connected with every agent hasn't heard of Indiana reaching out to anyone right now, Rabby who is pretty much just connected to agents and AAU people and hasn't heard much, just soft chatter. Both have said they have heard things for other openings but not ours. For the life of me I just can't figure out why :-)

Rabby apparently was told by someone to move on from Brad. I personally don't think anyone has any idea.

One thing I come back to is simply how weak of a denial it was. These guys know how words are perceived and how any statement would be interpreted with the IU job being open. The fact remains they could have really shut it down on the record. They had to know “not a candidate” wouldn’t kill the speculation completely.

Or, he’s so uninterested and cares so little they were essentially hand waving the possibility as absurd. Which is entirely possible, he is running the Boston Celtics after all lol.

I've heard him say that. He also deletes things when people talk about him, he kicked Cleeter out of chat last night when he brought him up. It's weird. If for some reason his name gets brought up in a couple weeks he will be like I had him on the hot board the whole time

I think this is weird considering the line of work these guys are in. You have to think Brad Stevens talk on the boards would drive up clicks and subscriptions so it makes no logical sense that he is shutting it down and forbidding it.

And he added the “unless an unforeseen circumstance” at one point too lol

I mean people were asked to quiet down. I get what you’re saying though.

Oh it’s a dumpster fire over at Peegs they are getting so testy because he is giving them nothing but shooting down even the slightest of rumors, and continues to remain vague because he has no new info . His sources are agents so what else can he say besides the agents are floating there guys names ( because they wants raises and more NIL cash ) clear he and his little cronie Eric are anxious because they have no more sources inside the actual IU athletic department.
