Wade is where Sampson was right before he got to Houston. He paid the price and is atoning for it. But I get it, hiring Wade would mean we wouldn't be able to act like we're above everybody else, and he wins too much.

Wade is still on a show cause until June.  Sampson’s show cause had run out when he became Houston’s coach.

Cronin is the popular choice of “a lot” of people on this forum. Just read through past pages and you will find them. Even Indy Star’s Doyle is pushing Cronin, the other names you may be right about, but there are people on this forum that have shown support for guys like Brownell and Pitino. I am still hoping for an elite proven coach, but the Cronin talk is very real and I would be very disappointed if that is the direction we go.

Cronin is not the popular choice of a lot of people. I haven't seen anyone actively campaigning to hire Cronin, nobody wants Cronin (I certainly don't), but if we get to the Brownell's or McCollum's just to find someone willing to say yes to our job, we could do worse than a guy who makes the tournament every year and wins 68% of his games.

The fact is, people simply do not like Cronin's personality (which 100% totally get after the last 8 years), and it has nothing to do with his coaching record. If he was likable, he would probably be considered a really nice option and not like 6-10 on the list.

I am not going to argue about the amount of people, but there are plenty of posts supporting him, hard to miss them actually?

Cronin seems like the emergency parachute option.  I know some highly disagree though.

His buyout is the issue.  I wouldn't be so against him if it was less than that.  But you don't spend 10mil on safe then another 5/year.  That's not safe money.

Anytime Wade has lost a game in the past 5 or 6 years I post that picture in the college basketball thread.  It’s a well known inside joke for longtime posters on this site.  My hatred for Wade as a coach goes back along way on this board and it’s well documented.  I don’t care how much the guy wins I don’t want him anywhere near a program I’m invested in.  There was a time back in his VCU days where I posted on how good of young coach he was going to be and he runs really good stuff.  His personality changed for the worse when he got to LSU and he became someone I didn’t want to root for anymore.   Throw in the arrogance of his strong a…. offers and how slimy he looked during it and after I just want no part of him.   He is a fantastic coach I just think he is a POS trash of a human and don’t want him near Bloomington.   Luckily I don’t have to worry about that

Do you know him personally? I don't get hating him this much.

With Cronin, he’s not a bad option, but he limits the ceiling this program can take IMO. We will consistently make the tournament, which is a huge improvement over where we are at now, but won’t have a lot of success in it.

My worry with Cronin is we will be with him, most likely, for the next 15ish years and will have a couple Sweet 16s. Not enough to get him fired, so it all just depends on what Dolson wants and who is willing to take the job.

I’d like to know why you heathens are not at church on this beautiful, Sunday morning. And if you ARE— why you’re on this board instead of listening to your preacher! :)

Nope.   do people that hate Tom Brady know him personally?   It’s not that deep.   I don’t like him therefore I don’t want him coaching the team I’m invested in

People hate Tom Brady cause he won a lot. You seem to hate Wade on a personal level, mentioning his personality. That's why I ask. To each their own, I just don't get it

I posted some of them, but my point was no one was arguing Cronin as popular choice, at least I didn't see that. I definitely wasn't, just that he was a decent option if we get that far down ballot and arguments against him were either personality based or that he had made too many tournaments without enough final fours which are both absurd given the state of our program (but as I said, i get the personality thing).

I do understand why someone would want a McCollum type over him (I certainly could be talked into it), but I do not think Dolson takes a risk like that. Cronin simply isn't risky if we cannot get someone at the top of the list. He's a safe and milquetoast option to get us back relevant.

Anywho, heres hoping he is never actually considered and we do not get to that pool of candidates. Cheers.

He wins at Iowa State, big... in a good conference...

Cronin sort does ok at UCLA? In an average B1G and bad P12... and was 3-6 in the tourney at Cinci?

Age? Everything?

Otz is 47 and Cronin is 53. The age gap isn’t huge. Otz is 4-5 in the NCAA tournament while Cronin is 15-14, including 8-3 at UCLA. Otz is winning 68.9% of his games and 57.1% of his conference games and ISU while Cronin is winning 68.7% and 69% of his conference games.

How does this equal Otz “winning big” but Cronin “sorta doing ok”?

Yeah I follow college basketball closely.  I pay attention to the whole sport not just IU so I watched him coach at VCU when he was a young coach.  As I said watching him turn into a villain in real time was something that turned me away from being a fan of his.   Nothing to get.  I once liked him as a coach and now I don’t

I’d take Wade. I’d take Sampson too. The rule Wade broke was actually illegal for the NCAA to even have in the first place. I actually like his cockiness and it’s needed at a place like IU imo. We can’t have some meek coach. We need someone who has a personality big enough for the job. This isn’t just an X’s and O’s job. It will take someone with a personality big enough to handle it all. Think Bruce Pearl, Wade, Oats, Stevens etc.
