Two years ago at FAU he finished Kenpom 17 (UM is currently 22nd), final 4, 35-4; last year they were KP 47, basically a miracle at FAU.

Oh, no one has to convince me that May can coach. I’d be happy with him for sure.

I just put myself in Dolsons shoes and recognize there’s more risk there than with some other realistic hires. May obviously has a ton of upside though and could be a long-term solution.

Yeah,  kinda meh, but if he was a little more consistent, like say 2 sweet 16's  and a Final Four in 3 of the 4 years he coached there that the tournament was held, well then...checks notes.

I would still have zero interest in a guy that over 30 years has had 1 maybe 2 teams capable of winning a title.

Hell Crean had 2 or 3 in his last 6 years here, alone.

3 sweet 16s and 1 Elite 8.  The year he made the final 4 still counts as a sweet 16 appearance for him

Yep, he won 2 more tournament games his first 5 years, still say he is only marginally better than a guy that everybody on this forum would agree is mediocre but the shilling continues….

LTFOL, over 30 yrs? Do you think he got his first HC job at 22?  It's a little early to be hitting the hard stuff.

Don't like the guy, fine, but FFS, you have not posted a single thing that is close to factual about his career.

NGW was a Woodson bootlicker who'd write term paper-length posts complaining about how the fans made Woodson's job harder. He deleted his account last spring.

He sounds just like the burner accounts that glaze Woodson.  I just don’t understand how the fans can be blamed for Woodson’s failures as a coach.  He’s terrible and no amount of fan support would change that.

Cronin hasn’t been a coach for “over 30 years.” He started coaching in 2003, and unless you want to fault him for not having a title contender at Murray State, it’s under 20 years. He made the tournament each of his last 9 years at Cincinnati. 4 in 6 years at UCLA (with it being canceled one of those years. So, he’s made the tournament 13 out of the last 15 years. IU has made it 6 out of the last 15 years.

We’re talking about title teams when we can’t even make it to the tournament 50% of the time. Who can IU realistically hire that will be better than that?

Does 22 years make it that much better? Wowza.

Absolutely laughing you didn't comment on only having 1 or 2 capable title winning teams.

Good. And yes, if making the tourney is our goal, absolutely... hire Mick Cronin tomorrow. We will be in the tourney a lot. Yayyyy

Would making the tournament every year not be a significant upgrade over what we’ve dealt with the past 15+ years? It’s not the end goal, but getting in every year certainly gives you a much better shot at winning the title.

Got to crawl before you can walk. That’s where some disagree.   Some think IU can skip steps and be in a position to hire a coach that can automatically put them at the head of the table.   Some think it’s going to take a process and the first step is getting a coach to stabilize a middle of the pack mediocre or under (I think IU is 25-30 games under .500 in the B1G over the last 9 years) B1G team.   Maybe it’s good to hire a coach like Cronin first to stabilize and then worrying about games past the sweet 16 later

22 years, 32 years, 2 Sweet 16's 4 sweet 16's and a FF

Why let facts get in the way of some good old fashion irrational dislike.

What is impressive though?

Not much

I'm sorry. I have no interest in this.

That's great. We are Iowa/Minnesota now.

I think you make good points here.  The problem is, some of us older guys have lost patience and have little interest in “stabilize.”  And I think, given both the current landscape of college basketball and the resources at our disposal, it’s OK to expect more than that.  Quite frankly, I want to be sitting here 6 or 7 years from now and be thought of as one of the 6 best programs in college basketball, because that’s absolutely what we’re capable of.
