He wasn’t all of the sudden elevated to that job, that’s why you don’t understand. He was elevated 3 months after the fact in June. At the very best case scenario for the Stevens kool-aid drinkers on this forum, Stevens got a dollar figure from IU for pure contract leverage down the road. He never considered taking the IU job and IU was never seriously going to pay him $70mil.

IndyResident16 Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 @Chris007 and for the record, Danny Ainge didn’t “retire” as some plan to name Brad Stevens his successor. He was forced out by the organization and allowed to “retire” to save face. He literally took the same position with the Jazz three months later.

I'm not directing this at you or denying that we're starved for a winner and the admin has botched the past quarter century. There are still better head coaching candidates out there for IU than Chris Beard. Just because he is most obvious (to some) does not mean anyone who opposes him is complicit in IUBB's mediocrity. It's not "holier than thou" to maintain standards that include not harboring a domestic abuser as long as he wins basketball games. No, I won't blame the administration for people fiercely advocating for Chris Beard. They can own the fact that they don't care if he drunkenly beats a hundred women as long as they get to hang a banner for their favorite basketball team. We can win with other guys. He's no leader of men, especially young men. It's not about second chances... and he's already had plenty of opportunities. DV is rarely an isolated incident. It usually escalates. Can you imagine if, god forbid, the unthinkable happened ... in Bloomington? Is it "holier than thou" to want no part of such a scenario that is statistically a non-insignificant possibility? If that's holier than thou. So be it... the rest of us will pray for ya'll. thebigweave, Ngw7183, Maedhros and 5 others 7 1
