The topic is, what school is more attractive. Recruiting is somewhat a product of attractiveness, so that's the point.

Ok well those recruits didn’t pan out so I’m glad we didn’t attract them. How does not winning a tourney game since 2014 make the job attractive? We can agree to disagree its better to just let the thread keep going instead of rehashing old points. Cheers to a better program!

Wouldn't be surprised if we checked in and then he let's someone know he was contacted on his interest.

Yeah....the term “zeroed in” would be bringing n more than one source.

So just look it as a normal job application in the real world.  Does an HR department only bring in  1 resume at a time and look at it to see if they are qualified and want to hire that one.  No they keep the job open and looks at 100's of resumes and then decide who they want to bring in for an interview.  So what is so different in a coaching search when you want to look at multiple coaches before bringing in the few for interviews.

Some one ponied up $10MM...not to sort through resumes!

IDK. "Fit" is a deep topic. A guy that wins, will typically be a fit wherever he is lol.

I didn't really see Crean as a bad fit. I did think AM was a bad fit, but that is mostly due to his scheme.

Granted I was a year old when RMK was hired, but I thought I've read that IU fans weren't initially happy because they were used to the "Hurryin Hoosiers" type of ball and RMK slowed it down with his motion offense.. but when the wins came and championships won, the man was a genius according to fans- so fit is less important than success.. Just Win Baby!

By the way, my suspicion is that Dolson has reached to a whole lot of successful coaches who he believes could be a good fit, to gauge whether they'd have any IU interest. Probably through their agents/representatives.

And that's a good idea.

Which doesn’t equate “zeroing in on”. That’s just Goodman being a dick.

My gut feeling is that recruiting coaches in the same conference is kind of a last resort thing.

Penn State just took an assistant from another team in the conference.

It was Cuban, and $10MM to him is like $3 to us

I'm guessing that IU's contact with Holtmann, Matta, Woodson, Cheaney, and any other name out there is actually pretty routine in a coaching search, but that sort of info generally goes by the wayside as soon as a coach is hired. Its been 11 days since Archie was fired, which isn't an eternity, but at also does provide enough space for those types of stories to percolate and gain traction.

But they've made the tournament at least 3 times in the last 5 years, vs our 1.

And they won their conf tournament this year. We've never won a conf tourney.

Like I said, it's not crazy to debate things. We're living off history at IU. If we're simply comparing the last 5 years, TX has been better. And they've easily out recruited us since 2016, so we at minimum know the kids are buying TX over IU.

Things can turnaround quickly though. Let's just hope we land the right coach.

The question is which is a better job, not who has done better in the last 15 years. We've had some horrible hires but if we can get one good one here the coach will be a legend. It's not even close to which is the better job between us and Texas and I can't believe I have to type this out.

Ok new take no one is gonna have the slighest of who we hire til it happens cuz i wldve never guessed in a million years we even contact holtmann tbh

Why would people be shocked we are interested in Holtman?

$10MM comes w more expectation than getting rid of someone .

Not necessarily.  If Dolson would have called me without a coach lined up, I would have given him seventy billion dollars to get rid of Archie.
