GaryP Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 So we're going to hire someone to be our head coach who no one else has ever wanted to be their head coach either? And whose assistant coaching resume is incredibly thing? Mike Woodson isn't a good candidate. But Mike Woodson looks like Brad Stevens as a candidate compared to Calbert Cheaney. We'd be hiring someone with no head coaching experience and minimal assistant coaching experience to resurrect a struggling program. How do we know that Woodson or Cheaney are being interviewed as candidates? Could they not be people Dolson trusts that he could be bouncing names off of. He dis say his circle would be tight. Popular Post HoosierFan1994 Posted March 25, 2021 Popular Post Posted March 25, 2021 I'm seeing Porter Moser's name on Peegs pop up. Did everyone not just learn their lesson with the "hot mid-major" guy? If Illinois beats Loyola on Sunday, we aren't talking about Porter Moser. If Calbert Cheaney, Mike Woodson, Dane Fife, and Michael Lewis aren't IU grads, we aren't talking about them. That's the problem with these 5 names...it's an emotional hire. You don't have a "philanthropic donation" for an emotional hire. cybergates, madmax, ElectricBoogaloo and 5 others 8

Dolson's smart, decisive and a go getter. 2. He has the full support and monetary backing of “Big Money” donors. (Glass didn’t) 3. He has full support and backing of former IU greats from Knight’s 70’s teams to present. 4. Whoever the new coach is....Mark My Word...... I'll give them a chance but let's call this what it would be-an emotional hire based off one factor. My cousin played for UE in the mid 2000s. They were awful. The one school they consistently beat was Porter Moser's Illinois State team. It's possible Moser got two really good players in Custer and Krutwig at Loyola. I could see a DePaul or Marquette hiring him due to Chicago connections. Not Indiana. Insert the Michal Jordan "stop it" GIF. Hoosierfan2017 and cybergates 2
TheDarkKnight69 Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 Sounds like we might have some power 5 competition. Seeing stuff that Lon Kruger might be done at Oklahoma. Luckily that job fits Mark Turgeons desired job.

Woodson would be a head coach. Calbert, in my opinion, would not. So my posts aren’t the ones to use as an example. Chris007 1

These coaches have to come in with a plan as to how they are going to get Indiana back to a consistent top 20 team. If a coach comes in with a plan that really appeals to Dolson, I'm sure they move up. If they don't really have a plan, I'm sure they aren't as appealing. Just like any job interview, they have to show they really want to put in the work. Totally agree. In my management career I hired probably 100 technical positions and interviewed many more than that. One thing I learned is that the resume is only the starting point in the process. A thorough interview to find out how they think and work and fit in the organization is far more important. I think the reason this process is taking so long is that SD is doing the due diligence and consulting folks that know the candidates and asking the right questions. This takes time and is a good thing IMO. Debating candidates is fine but getting worked up over a buddies text isn't productive. No one knows what SD is really doing so we need to let the process play out. No one knows the program better or has more on the line than Dolson. He’s never even been in charge of implementing a system. We have no idea what he would actually run and what it would look like. I'm not advocating a CC hire, but I do believe he would run an NBA-style offense because Dolson has essentially made that a prerequisite for the job (going by his presser). And if Nonymouse's sources are correct and Matta said thanks but no thanks, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that's the reason why.

Said it could still happen but the indications they have thus far are that Beard has at least some interest and that they don't believe IU is interested due to lack of fit. It's always possible conversations are happening, but Peegs said they do not believe IU has even contacted Beard. I wonder if the Stevens Rumors got so out of hand that they are really keeping things under wraps and its just a misdirection. Honestly almost everyone's coaching list has Stevens 1 then Beard 2.... so if we haven't even reached out... Does that mean Stevens is still in play? IUMD98 1
