General Coach Candidate News

Recommended Posts

This feels like the night before a billion dollar powerball. It’s a long shot but I gotta dream!

I’m all in on the Stevens hype and if it doesn’t work out, IU still upgrades, doesn’t matter who the next coach is.

(also from HSN under GoshenFan84)

I've lurked this site as long as I've been a member of HSN. Only about 3 yrs now. Both are good places. Only made an account because HSN got blown up. If/when HSN comes back will probably participate in both. Lots of good info and people from both sites.

I'm at that point it will be like when Archie was announced. Disappointed it wasn't the name. Hahaha. Will only be my own fault but as a life long fan who was born in 1990 I needed a guy like Donvan to be the hire last time. I need Stevens to be the guy this time for me to be excited about it. Sure another guy could be a great hire but it will take time for me to warm up.....I understand that is unfair to the new coach, but is what it is lol

I see the notifications in the right top corner and when I tap it does nothing. How do I navigate this site?

Are you on mobile? You have to drag the page to the left to see the notifications, if so.

I’m loving all the new faces around here! All aboard the Stevens train! I’m definitely wearing my green shoes tomorrow. I wore them today but that doesn’t matter. Anything to bring luck!

You & I better get a window seat on this train.

Celtics down by 4 in the 4th quarter against the Jazz. They better just get rid of him right after the game....we’ll go ahead and pick him up in a jet in Utah for them, no worries....

Sweet.  I'm going to turn it on and fantasize..

I post on HSN and on the rivals site.  I have been lurking here for a few years.  The rivals site is just habit, I started reading that board when it was Peegs back in 99/2000.  That site is not great for the basketball talk anymore.  Then HSN went down and I had been following Chris's info so decided to get a name and join in.

I feel Brad knows the mindset.  I think we all have high expectations but not unrealistic.  We want a clean program, good kids, tough nosed players.  Archie acted like he owned the place and put a subpar team together who didn’t improve and didn’t play hard.  Bad combination.

True story: I saw him at St Elmo in the upstairs lounge right after he was announced.  Hardly anybody there.  I stopped on our way out.  Apologized for interrupting him.  Thanked him for taking the job and said we were tough but fair - but looked forward to many years with him at the helm.  And wished him luck.  His reaction let me know he was not going to be a good fit here.  Deer in headlights.

I watched Archie's presser and the excitement I had turned to a tepid and uneasy feeling. Something just seemed "off"- zero personality- and as a long time teacher, that spells disaster when working with kids.

In my opinion, the concerns over the ‘lateness’ of a Coach Stevens arrival (saying Coach Stevens sounds good), should he be the next coach, are offset by a few things:

- what he could do with our current roster

- recruiting for him would be instantly different...he would be recruiting downhill not up

- the possibility of the effect of the transfer changes

Bottom line, I would just not be as concerned about waiting for June or July for a coach Brad Stevens. I would go so far as to say if he wants to come you wait until June ‘22 if you need to.  : )

I haven’t got crap done at work the last day and half and I don’t see any end in sight until we have our coach. Please Dear Sweet Baby Jesus let it be Brad!!!!

Me either! Not only on the message boards but I’ve listened to about 10 IUBB podcasts the last couple of days.

Like everyone, really hoping for Stevens but expecting differently. Not trying to be the mood killer, but I think we will be just fine with a Beard, Drew, Belien, Matta (if healthy), and a few other good candidates. We all want the golden boy and I am in that boat too, but we have to realize that it might not happen and it’s not for an insane amount of trying.
If it doesn’t happen but we still get a heck of a coach, I just worry this fanbase will never be satisfied even if we are a top program consistently. I don’t think it’s Belien or Matta, but I am confident in Scott Dolson that he will make a heck of a hire, regardless if it’s Brad Stevens or 99% great.
We are IU and should demand greatness, but doesn’t mean the coach will be flawless.
