Trish Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 I can't get behind a guy who was on a downward trend at O$U and hasn't sniffed a basketball in FOUR YEARS. Kids don't remember him, his recruiting was already on the fritz. No thanks. mark1981, Chris007 and Bowhunter 3

When you add in 5 coaches in 21 years, I think people are hesitant to come here. I think people think it is an administration problem. Can't run off players, harder to get grad transfers things like that. Coaching’s a fraternity so they’re going to stick up for one of their own. They also have vested interests in coaches getting longer leashes from their schools. The lower the expectations, the greater the job security. Coaches might think four years isn’t long enough, but they can’t deny that Archie hasn’t gotten it done. And they also can’t deny that our year 5 outlook is quite bleak. Recruiting has fallen off a cliff, and it’ll only be worse next year. He’s not going to get any difference making recruits sign when he’s sitting on a scorching hot seat. . Four years is plenty of time to time to get a program turned in the right direction. Two coaches in our own conference who were hired the same year as Archie have done exactly that. That’s better than we’ve done in the past 5 years. He hasn’t even coached in the past four seasons yet he’s been to as many NCAA tournaments in the past five seasons as IU has. I fully expect whoever we hire to be worse than Thad Matta. MikeRoberts, lillurk and KYHoosier 3

Not to mention, Archie Miller at IU isn't threatening anyone or making their jobs more difficult. That doesn't signal a person who has the health to be a head coach IMO? I'm old enough to remember when we would all be arguing about what seed we would be getting for the NCAA Tourney...the good ol days. Been 1,803 days since IU last played in an NCAA Tourney game...but whose counting Chris007 1

If that’s the best we can do, we really have fallen. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners I think a lot of people, likely Matta included, would contribute the decline in results directly to the decline in his health. That his back issues got so bad that he was not able to fight the recruiting battles like he used to, he had to sit at practice a lot and even outside of that he was a very active guy who was forced to be much less active. In a job that requires a LOT to perform at a high level, that will take it's toll on anyone. This is also the reason I'm a no on Matta until there is some sort of definitive proof that his health will no longer hold him back, which is likely something we won't have until he goes and actually coaches somewhere for several years. We can't be that guinea pig. Even if there are claims that his health has improved, you have to wonder how much of that improvement is simply b/c he's not trying to perform an incredibly demanding job every day anymore. Edit: *Attribute*, not contribute. I must have typed that with my disposable thumbs. Chris007, lillurk and thebigweave 3

DD has mentioned that you need to be able to bench players to send a message yet Archie plays kids anyway. I doubt he is soft so i wonder if he is being limited in how hard he can coach the kids. I hope the Admin hears this loud and clear, if true, and will let him do what he needs to do.

I think you're right in that if IU football can find success, there is no reason IU basketball cannot. Where I don't think there is a direct correlation is that we don't want a Tom Allen for basketball (not the man and coach we currently know, I mean the equivalent of what Tom Allen was before he was our head football coach). He wasn't a known commodity that had a track record of high level head coaching success before we hired him. We want the hoops version of a Nick Saban, a Ryan Day, a Dabo Swinney. A Tom Allen in the college basketball world is a well respected assistant coach who specializes in defense. Are those out there? Sure. Can they have a Tom Allen affect on the basketball program? Sure. But they are all names we would scoff at as our next head coach. I could be wrong but I think Chris's point is more that our list of Nick Saban's, Ryan Day's and Dabo Swinney's in college hoops aren't viewing this job as very attractive. The Tom Allen's of college hoops probably would, and wouldn't bat an eye at whatever the perceived administration issues are. Chris007, thebigweave, Alford Bailey and 1 other 4
Trish Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 Speaking of Tom, I saw him the other week at Fresh Thyme shopping. Just enjoying his Saturday afternoon in the best town in Indiana.
