Heard if the hire had been Dusty or Brad Stevens then probably would happen but can’t see it happening unfortunately

Let me say how I think it went down and you can tell me if I'm way off-base:

1. Swung big for Stevens again because boosters demand it. This went on for a while and it got really close again, but in the end he decided to stay in Boston.
2. Then took a temperature check with some other people, and struck out again. 
3. Started conducting a regular college basketball coaching search. 

There is no shame in striking out. In fact, you want him taking those swings. But getting someone from the NBA or out of a broadcast job is pretty tough when the money is similar and the job is easier. I'm actually pretty happy to have made a regular coaching hire this time instead of reaching into the NBA so I think it all might have worked out. I like getting a young guy who has something to prove instead of a guy at the end of his career.

No! Devries went grocery shopping and by the time he left the store he’d apparently been our next coach for 45 minutes already.

3 million at WV vs 5 million for Woody.  Basically had an equivalent year.  I don’t see the extra 2 million being the difference at all.

I think it's great. I'm glad that Dolson went with a young, hungry coach.

Idk did you think oats could do it before he got there? Maybe you did i honestly don’t know but you have to find the next oats because the days of hiring a guy like oats away from a nonbasketball  school look like they’re done

Would love to be wrong, but that's my gut feeling. 

This is what I feel may be the case. For quite some time we were told by insiders that boosters were confident Dolson got "his guy."

The way this all played out absolutely feels like it happened spur-of-the-moment and was not in the works for months (or even a year as some would have us believe).

I'd be fascinated to know more of what happened behind the scenes, who the "mystery candidate" was, and how we ended up here.

I like this hire, it seems solid with quite a bit of upside. Right now I'd probably give it a B or B+.

Has experience as an assistant coach under Altman and McDermott.

Turned Drake around year 1. Finished top 2 in the conference 5/6 years. Won the MVC tournament twice. Got Drake its first at large tournament bid. Won 1 NCAA game in the First Four.

Turned WV around year 1. While his 1 year at WVU wasn't off the charts good, it was a huge step up from the previous year and they should have made the tournament. Had a top 15 defense.

Should be able to bring his son and some other good players with him. Had 3 4* incoming freshmen for WVU so he shows he can recruit.

I look at the conference tournament wins and the 1 First Four game as having some postseason success.

Also comparing Devries to Woodson this year doesn’t really make sense to me since his best player was out. They were ranked before Tucker went out. Take woodys best player away from him and we may not win a game
