Could be, there are definitely real differences (ie. in the NBA you're not really poaching active head coaches from other teams). Honestly, makes me lose a bit of faith in the process if the athletic department is spending time on those types of things. 

There's plenty of misinformation out there on its own, without the athletic department spending time on smokescreens and misinformation.

I’m not seeing where brownell’s buyout is 8 million.  From the contract someone posted it looks like $8 buyout if Clemson terminates but $3.3 million if he leaves on his own.

Most of the time, scouts/executives wear normal clothing, no brand affiliation. It varies. 

If, and its a big if, he was really a week or two out from taking over a major college basketball program, it sure would make sense for a guy to attend a bunch of conference tournaments to see a wide range of players that may be in the portal soon.

I can't recall ever being part of a conversation or any action around putting out false information to get the media or fans off the trail. 

Maybe college is different, but I think all this smokescreen stuff happens far, far less than fans think. 

It's not different. Seeing things as smokescreens is just a form of denial. It's basically saying "fake news!" any time the information doesn't align with their wishes. It lets people hold out the hope for their preferred candidate or that the candidate they don't want won't be it.

There's probably plenty of inaccurate information going around, but I very much doubt that's intentional.

I’m not saying Scott isn’t pulling off something great behind the scenes right now, but I follow a couple of schools fairly closely and haven’t heard any stories about ADs that even begin to rival half the “fan fiction” written about Scott Dolson over the past two years lol. Not calling every story about him posted here that, but there’s definitely been some of it. We can all admit that right? I say that as someone that wants him to succeed and thinks he will make a good hire (really hope he does anyway).

This is, IMO, by far the most likely explanation for supposed smokescreens from the IU side.

Plenty of that going on with agents per usual.

Just briefly, at a certain level of giving, each donor gets assigned a “contact person” in the AD’s office (associate AD, assistant AD, etc.).  If the donor wants info about anything, they go to their contact person.  The names that that been passed along and generally picked up by the “media” (Goodman, etc.) are names that these contacts are giving to the donors.  Unless you believe a name like Beard is actually a candidate, they are false flags.

Exactly! Beyond it mostly being a waste of time and energy, that's why teams don't need to send out false info or create smokescreens, the system creates it on their own. 

The vast majority information out there by fans and media is almost always comoletely wrong anyways.

We know so little about what's actually happening behind the scenes, if I wanted to be critical right now, I'm not sure what I would be critical of.  I don't know our top targets (we probably know one), how long we've been talking to those targets, our pitch, targets' feedback to us, and who has or will reach an agreement to be our next coach.  Waiting stinks, but that's where we are at.  Though that will end soon.

Totally, which is a good thing. We are all just on edge after more than a month of this now basically. The timing was always going to be most likely right after the first weekend finishes and the portal opens IMO. We just gotta leg out the home stretch, almost there… hard not to fill in the blanks with conjecture / speculation in the meanwhile
