It's like the Beard RMK connection being talked about. It doesn't matter, tons of coaches have RMK connections and most of them wouldn't be successful at Indiana. These are not good criteria for hiring coaches.

Agree with this. If we end up with Brownell, that means either Dolson loves these searches so wants to run it back in 4, or we whiffed on about 12 other coaches. 
I’m going with he won’t be our coach. Not worried at all.

Yea we had a tough time at the national champs, who were killing everyone, including Tennessee and Oregon, and also the national runner-up.  That's like the most reasonable thing ever for a first year coach inheriting a bottom of the conference program picked at the beginning of the season to be last or second to last in the conference.

These losers will be trying to lob "I told you so's" if IUFB wins 6, 7, even 8 games next year.  Which is monumentally dumb given where we have been and what the program is trying to do.  Everyone knows it will take years and there will be ups and downs, heck this staff is just 16 months in and still getting high school recruiting relationships going.

If an IU fan can't enjoy what IUFB is trying to do, they like being miserable more than they like IU.  And by the way, the whole financial future of IU athletics rests on football, bball just does not move the needle even though we all love it.

 

I have a very close friend that was like this. Once the hire happened I told him that IU is going to make some noise. At one point I was telling him we might see 10 wins because everything I was seeing (interviews, spring ball, etc.) was all the right things you see with winners. I told him everyone will know about Kurtis Rourke and his name will be discussed for Heisman. He told me I had delusions of grandeur. He changed his tune when IUFB curb stomped the Bruins in the Rose Bowl. I was at the Rose Bowl and got a text from him after the Amare Ferrell pick that simply said, "I'm a believer, they're for real." Coaching matters.

I am adamant that we don't need an inspiring hire. Inspiring or not, the coach has to win games (and not embarrass the university off the court.) We don't need to win the press conference or off-season. We need a basketball coach that will win games.

I'm not saying I believe Stevens is signed sealed and delivered....but if he was, and had been since February, why would he have had to try to lock up Ben McCollum?  I mean if Brad was the guy and had a verbal as has been mentioned (again, I don't know that he has), he wouldn't be locking anyone else up...

Another way to look at the timeline: if we don't make the tournament and there's no announcement on Monday, it ain't Brad

I'll add this: if there's no handshake deal with a coach by now, it's malpractice. Scott has had 5 weeks officially for this search (really a year) and portal backchanneling has been happening for months already. Whoever the next coach is will need to have been aware of the job they're stepping into and started evaluating the roster and potential additions.

That’s the thing for me. I get that no one may have a signature on a contract but I find it hard to believe that we don’t have our number one target with at least a verbal agreement. What would they still be negotiating? Parking spots and PTO days? That doesn’t mean we still aren’t doing due diligence but I can’t believe we would still be at the gathering candidates phase.
