This. Looking at the searches for UK/UL last year, my expectations have been kept in check. UK is a blue blood program. If they had to move down their list because the heavy hitters wouldn’t go there, what makes us believe it’s different here?  It’s not different. NIL changes the playing field. You don’t have to go to a blue blood to get great players because they will come with money and coaching regardless. Is this still a desired job? Sure for some. But Pearl, Drew, Few, Oats don’t need to come to IU. They have established programs where they can and are winning.
I hope the white whale rumors are correct and we get the big fish. But I’m preparing myself for a McCollum, Wade, McMillan. I won’t be surprised  given todays college basketball landscape.

Not only that, but with the way football revenue is flowing in these days for SEC and Big Ten schools, non-traditional basketball programs are receiving a ton of funny money, and they can spend on par with the basketball schools that actually care about being good. There’s a reason why IUBB can’t pry away Nate Oats, and it’s Nick Saban’s success. I’m surprised Georgia hasn’t found its way into the top 10 yet.

Long time listener, first time caller. I thought I would jump into the fun for once. Keep an eye on Devries potentially going to Iowa. I watched a BM interview with Andy Katz and he would take much more into consideration when taking a job than it being the hometown team.

If you want McCollum, that’s what you better hope for

I will obviously support whoever the hire is. I would also think if you were a booster and spent millions for a roster for woodson why wouldn't you pony up for the new hire? I see a ton of people are disappointed on social media and that probably won't change until he proves himself. It's a hige risk by dolson to hire a low name candidate with a fanbase who are starving for immediate success. It can work but i question if it will

You just want to find a way to work in the word delivering because you’re a mailman.

I bet you’d change your name if you were an executioner. Then you’d say something else about execution.

...killed it?

Goodness.  McCollum goes from competing in a Guppy Bowl to the Shark Tank in 1 season.  He will be eaten alive.  We’ve got an Archie Miller part 2 upcoming.  Has no idea what it takes at that level to win and recruit.  F me.

Think you’re wrong here. Nothing about McCollum says that he is anything like Archie. We’re going to be lucky if we get him.

We really haven’t landed “the big fish” in a long time with any level of consistency.  We are not Kentucky, Kansas, or Duke and haven’t really recruited at that level since the early 90s.  EG?  Bracey? DJ White?  Cody?  Noah?  Not a ton of big fish in 30 years. We really need x’s and o’s and wins more than a Calipari.  Especially in this era.  Have no clue who we hire in the end.  Just hope he is a top 10 x and o guy with a better personality than Archie.

I would say we need a guy who does it all, not one or the other. I know that might be stating the obvious, but I think we've lacked a "complete" coach. Coaching acumen + personality and culture setter who grinds.
