General Coach Candidate News

I would say that there seems to be a theme that binds coaches like McCollum and Stevens together is the fact that I believe that they are very gifted (savant like) in being able to evaluate talent, and like he said in that one video, it is recruiting the right type of kids with the right attitude/IQ/toughness intangibles that (along with good coaching) win championships.

I don’t believe these type of coaches come along very often.  BK was still able to win big for a decent part of his career at Indiana with lesser talent and a bunch of Juco transfers … but those guys all fit his system.

The only true time to panic is when @Uspshoosier is panicking about our hire. And Usps never panics.  No matter what is said on a message board, who the hire is isn't going to change.

There are a lot of good coaches out there.  Some just don't have the same name recognition.

Collins would already has connections with Indiana high school coaches and recruiting the state.  It was an overlooked Indiana that help Collins make history and he made another overlooked Indiana kid into an all B1G performer until he got hurt.    If he did this with under recruited Indiana kids I wonder what he could do with the higher profile Indiana kids to

Who cares about Indiana kids? Just win. They will come if we win. And we haven’t. If it’s Collins, that will be the most underwhelming hire of this whole debacle. Why do we as fans want to settle?

sorry if I come off shitty, I just think we are trying to find ways guys could win when we need to find one that will.
Trust in Dolson. We will have our whale here soon enough.

Do you really think that's a fair comparison?

It was a joke.  But there is some truth in it.  We can worry about doing the same thing in four years and hiring a new coach.  But the truth is that we there is a history where you are doing it a lot sooner with Chris Beard.  Beard is a high ceiling coach but the floor is low as well because of other factors.

Ah, my mistake! Totally agree.

Unless he hires someone people don’t like

You going to trust him if he hires Collins? I personally would.  I think Collins is really good coach who could of left for a bigger job by now and I fully expect teams like Nova who have actually been way more successful as a program for a very long time now to have them high on their board when that job comes open

Would seriously challenge if he hired Collins.

I hated the Woody hire I just kept it to myself beside I didn’t want to bring my negativity towards the hire to the board.  I did however tell the Mod board how much I hated it but would give him a chance.  As long as they hire an actual college basketball coach this time I will be over the moon.  Doesn’t matter who gets hired people are going to be upset over it.   Doesn’t matter if it’s the 1,2 or 5 or 6 choice only thing that matters is if it’s the right hire.   IU is going to be fine and if not then see all of you guys back here whenever and hopefully they get it right.

I was on the same lines......I never understood the Woodson hire but didn't feel the need to pile on.  Gave it a chance.  Thought that the issues the first year could partially be attributed to the roster makeup -- NIL not totally in full swing yet.  But after time passed and continued to see he never changed the approach and then also saw players leave and then look better elsewhere while players who came in looked worse than they did prior to coming in -- it was obvious.  It was a nepo hire.

I think you would also agree that there are multiple answers to who the next coach is that can work out.  You watch more college ball than anyone and know there are numerous guys that can succeed at IU.

Would you consider yourself a glass is half full or a glass is half empty kinda guy?

Like a “this glass is so stupid. Bordering on vessel malpractice. I may not support any liquid collection if this next glass isn’t right” kind of guy

Except for where he is coaching. He is by far the best coach ever there. Done things no other coach has done at NW. NW isn’t lowering academic standards and isn’t playing in the grey either. He has been a huge success and elevated NW well above their previous best.
