scoot Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 He's not even close to being a draft pick right now. Most non-IU fans have no clue who he is. Honestly it doesnt matter if he stays or goes because our guard play for 3 years has been horrible. No signs of change coming. Now back to trayce, our poor guard play and probably offensive system is killing his play.Sent from my SM-G950U using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

monskisprodigy Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 This is just a brutally honest question...but why would any elite 2021 players come to Indiana right now? Why would our own Mr. Basketball choose IU after watching the last 2 play on struggling teams. THIS is what concerns me the most. If we continue down this road, recruiting becomes a problem. Hoosier Guy Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Purdue will have all the motivation in the world to beat IU. Too bad IU won’t feel the same way. That’s the problem with this team. They’re almost always never ready to play. That’s on Archie. The fact it keeps happening is maddening Happydaze and Josh 2 Quote

Alford Bailey Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Pretty sad what this program has become. I guess I was just lucky to be a fan in the 70s, 80s and 90s. We werent good every year but there was effort and a plan to get better whether that was player development or recruiting. Usually both. We sure as hell didnt play a cupcake non con just so we could survive conference play and squeak in the tourney. When we were good I was confident we could beat anyone anywhere. Fans didnt sit around looking at the schedule marking down guaranteed losses. This program is not enjoyable to watch from my perspective. tkbbn, MikeRoberts, IUHAHN81 and 3 others 6 Quote

The Maryland game was a kick in the balls buts we stunk on the road (Wiscy, MD, Rutgers) before the MSU game and then played well (until the end of the MD game) at home. I’m “hoping” that we look decent again at home. Who knows....but we will find out soon. Quote

Magnanimous Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Maybe it just has to do with getting older and gaining perspective, but I don’t understand how or why an IU basketball player could not relish at the short-lived opportunity before them and both come to play every game and do everything possible to get better while they’re in school. There is one player on this roster who has even a marginal chance at making something of himself in the NBA. At best, the rest of these guys are going to be playing in Turkey or Greece for a few years. Then for the next 45 years it’s either slouch over a desk with a 45 minute commute each way or become a coach/trainer/basketball camp instructor if you want to remain involved with basketball. I don’t know. Maybe with such an emphasis on getting to the pros as quickly as possible, being a college basketball player isn’t the “in” thing these days. Alford Bailey and thebigweave 2 Quote
bigrod Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 I’ve been a fan since the early 80’s. I still remember watching the ‘81 title game live on TV. I’ve seen a lot of really good basketball and then a lot of not so much. I was really getting discouraged in Crean’s last couple years, and I was excited that Archie was going to bring back a defense first, fundamental soundness, and accountability that we hadn’t seen for a while. I have to say I think I’m even more discouraged now. Honestly, this brand of basketball is just hard for me to watch. This team is so frustrating. There is talent n this team, but it seems largely untapped. The fact that Archie allows it to keep happening tells me he approves. If we have so few alternatives in his third year that he doesn’t approve, but is powerless to make the appropriate changes, it is an indication that he doesn’t know how to build a program at this level. Regardless of what anyone says, I think the vast majority of fans would be behind this team if we saw a team that cared, game in and game out. If we saw the effort put forth every game, I think we could handle the occasional dud. But, what we see is the same players doing the same things game after game, and in some cases, year after year. Nothing changes because the coach resists change. Someone needs to clue him in that it is not working. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners thebigweave, Ryno6284, pumpfake and 4 others 7 Quote

Popular Post Demo Posted February 1, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 1, 2020 1 hour ago, Brass Cannon said: No guards want to play in this junk system. Even when it works you don’t get to impress NBA scouts. The system? Stop it. Watch UK play in the half court tonight against Auburn. Almost all of their base actions are the same as what Miller’s running. But, ya know, Cal really struggles to recruit guards. Kept hearing that Underwood couldn’t recruit guards to Illinois because he runs so much spread while big time HS guards want to play in pick and roll to show off for the League. Dosunmu, Miller and Curbelo would indicate otherwise. The issue isn’t Miller’s philosophy or his systems, though I’m not a packline guy at all. But any coherent philosophy can be successful if taught and recruited to in a disciplined, focused way. Any of them. Jay Wright and Tony Bennett have 3 NC’s coaching completely different systems. They win by being slavishly committed to what they do. Crean’s ultimate downfall here wasn’t scheme, he’s got some beautiful actions, it was failure of discipline. The question is can Miller teach, motivate and construct a roster? That’s a legitimate question. I question why you take both Leal and Galloway in this class. I question why he offered Anderson, who’s a poor system fit. That’s not on the kid. I question why after 50 games in the system Rob still can’t read the back side action. Brunk and De’Ron are a mess trying to hedge and recover and smart teams will just keep them in ball screen, So the defense constantly ends up in rotation. Unless you’re Chris Beard, that ain’t what you want. So why doesn’t he alter that, either schematically or by personnel changes? And I question why this team isn’t growing faster mentally. But, no, the system ain’t the problem. BGleas, thebigweave, jonz44 and 5 others 8 Quote
ILHoosier Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 I rarely post but follow most threads. But if my memory serves me, a lot of posters on this board, last year, were saying this is how bad/good we would be this year. No shooters coming in and we have 3-3 star guards & 1-4 star who's playing like a 3. That's average at best and that's how good we are. We have 3-4 star bigs & 1-5 star and that's where our talent is. And we only have 1-4 star guard coming in next year. Our guards are not physically or mentally good enough to understand what needs to be done, like feed the bigs and turnovers ect. Especially this year in the Big 10. That was all said last year too on here. So we have had an average team for 2 straight years & CAM has not brought them along/developed them well enough that they are noticeably better last 3 years. Yes we have won against some talented teams but even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes. Bottom line is I didn't have high expectations this year or next because of what was pointed out on this board last year. And guess what. The posters were right. We are not good, just average. My disappointment is with the coaching staff. CAM was a good guard but can't seem to develop our guards. Making same bone head plays 80% of the time. Esp. DG. IMO I believe Cam is in over his head in the Big 10. He's not showing any reason to refute that. With all that said I'm in for 1 more year with him which will then be all his recruits. So what will change next year to make us better? Alford Bailey, Maedhros and MikeRoberts 3 Quote
