woodenshoemanHoosierfan Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 Old Fart Yes I’m kicking myself a little. I had the pain of watching #1 Indiana drop that OT game to Butler. That was a rough drive home. I was 100% confident we would win that game. This one would have been the opposite and even being as frugal as I am I would have been worth my money. Haha. As for Rob being our final shot taker at halves and end of games. I still think it is an interesting debate but Rob is earning that right every single game. I just find it interesting that we have one of the best scoring prospects in the country and he hasn’t been the guy to take those shots in any game, either by choice or luck. It’s remains an interesting thing to watch. That play yesterday was set up for Romeo. It became a broken play so Phinisee flashed to get openSent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk Quote
woodenshoemanHoosierfan Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 Exactly. I rewatched that play 20 times and the action. Romeo makes a soft curl around the screen. Not sure if he was supposed to curl towards the hoop or come to the ball. He kind of did neither. I think with his length he is used to blocking out his man and extending his arm for the pass as he does this on many plays. If he would use his speed on the cut and curl, and he gets that ball with momentum, no one stops him. As others have said, maybe he’s a good decoy option for a while. Plus Rob is shooting it better from range anyway. I also really enjoyed the drive/vision and drop off to Smith 2 plays early by Rob. Rob made the 2 clutch offensive plays on final 4 possessions and defended Baldwin on either 4/4 possessions or 3/4 possessions. Baldwin did score on 2 of the 3 attempts but I actually thought Robs defense was strong and Baldwin just made great plays. Bowhunter Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 I hope There’s nothing to DA not enjoying the celebrations. I also noticed he wasn’t in the picture with Smart and Oladipo. I really like his outside shot. We are going to need that next year and could obviously use it some this season. I trust Archie knows what he’s doing. I hope DA can hang in there because I think he has a bright future. MemphisHoosier and Str8Hoosiers 2 Quote
woodenshoemanHoosierfan Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 Is there some reason people keep trying to nitpick the behavior of our players? Last week there was a pretty heated discussion on another board that Phinisee never passes the ball to Langford so there must be friction between them, early on it was Langford not showing emotion so he must not like it here, now Anderson apparently didn't celebrate enough after the win. I'm not sure if some people are just infected with PTSD from the Crean years and are just frantically waiting for the other shoe to drop, but I just thought it was kind of strange.I agreeSent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk Quote

DChoosier Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 Great win. A few of the PROS: JM from three. If he can consistently be a threat from 3 it helps us and the odds of him having a career beyond IU (and, like many of the payers, he seems like a great guy). Rob has stones the size of Texas. The turnover machine improved in the second half. DD. He is providing meaningful minutes and needed size underneath. Good for him as he has really had to battle to get back. I’m am guessing he thought he would be a focal part of the team by now but he has seemingly accepted his role. There are games in which his big frame will be key to winning. Team as a whole does not give up. These grind it out wins are great experience for BT road games and hopefully for March. Nice to watch a defense that we have not seem in some time. CONS: Some might disagree but I do not think the second half means that it is not worrisome that we started out flat for the 5th or so game in a row. Why is that? Half way through the first half we were on pace for 30 turnovers, many of which were unforced. TO’s remain a concern and if not fixed will cost us some games. As mentioned I think DD is providing some decent minutes but our depth is not what we thought it would be until we get some consistency from Smith, McBob, Fitzner, and Green (ie Troy). The last play out of the timeout was a cluster and we ended up with Green dribbling the ball with a couple of seconds left. I was THRILLED Rob made the shot and we won but if Crean would have drawn that up, and the shot was missed, the board would have imploded. Again, glad we won, Rob has big stones, but not exactly a well executed play. Lets keep it going! Quote

For me to see Keith and Vic coming back home is truly a special game. How could any top prospect say no to this program? It continues to go up and up and I am enjoying watching Archie and team get us to the top. edit. Is that Noah Vonleh far right? Yup it is! Cool to see him associate himself with the program. I think he got a bad rap during his time here. That seemed to be more of a Crean problem than it did a Noah one. Hovadipo and Hoosier Roots 2 Quote

I feel like I’ve heard things like him telling recruits not to come here while he was on the team but I don’t know the specifics or certainty of that. I know a lot of IU fans don’t like him, just not sure exactly why and I assume some people here would have the juicy details if there are any. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
Napleshoosier Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 Was it during the Randle El years? If so I was in that fight. Around 1992 or 93 I thinkSent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
8bucks Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 When you watch the replay note how we did not set any screens to free up Romeo. Archie mentioned that the intended play was to go to Romeo and that we were supposed to try and free him with a screen. Archie was disappointed that we did not do a good job running that play to free Romeo but obviously was glad Rob’s shot went in. Archie gave Butler a lot of credit for blowing up some of the 2 man plays we tried to set up during the game and for their defense on that last play. One thing Crean should get a little credit for is recruiting and building a relationship with Phinisee early. Getting the foot in the door early before Painter got a chance to work on the local kid was beneficial for IU. All you had to do was watch him lead his team as a sophomore to the state title game to know the kid could play. Refs can't call them all, so might as well do it all the time. They had some pretty sweet flops yesterday too. I can see some of them must have watched tapes of Matt Howard. That dude made a living out of drawing bogus charges by falling down clumsily for 4 years. I noticed that early on they were kicking their legs out and falling on a lot of their 3 point attempts. I think that, and the crappy call last week where the kid jumped sideways into Romeo need to be addressed by the refs. Quote

My guess is he really liked Crean and enjoyed sticking it to IU for firing his guy. Who knows. Quote

ElectricBoogaloo Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 I was glad to see Justin Smith break out his jump shot this game. I remember him having one last year and it's a pretty good looking stroke. Hopefully he can do that more consistently and maybe the lane will open up for him a bit. Right now it seems like he can't cut and he can't drive because his guy is always slacking off of him. If he becomes a threat from mid or long range other opportunities might open up.
