Good lord. The amount of personal attacks on Indiana players is staggering. Critique how they play all you want, but some of the stuff here is over the top.

Frustrating game. Most IU fans were nervous heading into last night. Had trap game written all over it. After the first half I was cautiously optimistic about pulling out a win, but man that second half was rough.

IU turned the ball over way too much and settled for poor shots too often when they didn't. Free throws were abysmal. Defense struggled to contain the drive in the second half. The refs were all over the place.

The team has obviously improved  since the start of the season, but there is a thin margin of error. They simply aren't good enough to survive a horrendous night at the free throw line or ~20 turnovers.

On the bright side, Smith, Durham and Green are all seeing plenty of court time. They may be taking their lumps, but they'll be better for it. Fire hardens steel.

Still it's not very often that you outrebound your opponent and shoot 10% better than them from the field and lose.  But we have to remember that this is Crean's roster and it has stupid written all over it hence the constant turnovers and poor FT shooting.  We have talent but our basketball IQ is as low as you can get.

Yeah the attacks from some fans are becoming atrocious. I have been reading through twitter and such this morning and the comments are absolutely ridiculous and mostly uninformed. I mean one comment was "yeah the F is Green getting mins he's terrible much rather see Newkirk!" OMFG did you even watch the game?

Not the reason that we lost but the officiating was terrible! Terry Oglesby was calling the game last night and he is one of the refs from the terrible UNC v Gonzaga championship game! Keith Kimble was apart of the debacle in the pUKe game where ref John Higgins got death threats. That's 2 of the 3 refs from last night that have a top google search of a controversial game and articles written about them in actual news agencies not a fly by night article.

Seriously something needs to be done about these refs. If you remember a refs name or can google their name and find more than one article about them screwing up a game, there needs to be some sort of repercussion. The NCAA needs to devise some sort of system to keep accountability. There were soo many blown calls, no calls, and ghost calls last night. I watched the whole game but absolutely lost interest in the game when the refs took over.

Blame the Big Ten. It needs to stop though.

It was reported that the explanation was given to Archie that the ball did hit the rim and the shot clock should have reset. They gave the ball to Illinois because.... nobody knows. Why even look at if you watch the replay and are still going to give it to Ill?

The officiating has gone from bad to "I'm really trying to get a result here." It's odd that IU's last two games have almost hit dead on the betting line with both seeming to have missed some blatant calls.

I'm not saying.. I'm just saying.

That play was ridiculous. While it's true that the ball barely hit the rim, it was pretty clear from the change in ball rotation that it did.  It seemed like by halftime it was clear that our biggest weakness was free throw shooting.  So the second half starts and the refs start calling anything close to a foul on us, putting Illinois in the bonus by the 12:00 mark.  There were so many strange calls and almost everyone went to the home team.  And BTW, what the heck is with the pink whistles?

You guys remember when we lost here when we were #1 on that inbounds play?

Good times.

Yes I do with three guys thinking a 3 was going to be shot only to see no one in the paint 3 players trying to guard the 3 and one of those 3 should have been in the paint. Ah Tyler Griffey.

55.2% at the charity stripe with almost 30 attempts pretty much explains a two point loss on the road.  Free throws.  Make your free throws and all of us today would be talking about how awesome the win was.

UI pretty gave a blueprint to the Iowa's of the league on how to beat IU.  Put them on the line.  It's been a problem for them the entire season.

Overall I was really impressed with the team in the 1st half.  They seem to be playing much better as a team.  Honestly, I never would have thought I would be saying that after the season opener.

That game ticked me off, and the more I think about it the more ticked I get.  Could've and should've won that game.  Illinois isn't good and we let it go.

Unbearable officiating in the second half.  So many weak foul calls.  And how can college players be this bad at the easiest shot in the game?

Newkirk is terrible.  Green is too, despite sometimes pulling off a flashy pass.  Combined they have a basketball IQ in single digits (maybe).

The same defense that was played in the first half resulted in 32 FTs in the second half. Combined with Newkirk throwing it to anyone besides the other guys in red, Green dribbling the air out of the ball, McSwain traveling and getting everything blocked, everyone missing their fair share of freebies it made for an awful game.

I believe the whistles are pink because of Coaches vs. Cancer. Nevada went with all pink uniforms last night.

Keith Kimble was really bad last night. He was calling something every time down the floor in the 2nd half. He was calling fouls that weren't even in his area. He's not a normal Big Ten ref so not sure why he got the game. Maybe because Valentine has given some games back.

This could easily be a 5 game skid for IU, immediately following the game against Michigan State is a road game against Rutgers and Rutgers is no pushover any more. Hope I'm wrong but that's what I see. This team is more than likely NIT bound, and frankly, I am okay with that. Losing 3 NBA players and inheriting a team that played no defense and turning them into one of the better defensive teams in Big Ten has been impressive if you ask me. Archie is a good coach, and the program is in good hands, last night hurt but there are better days ahead. Fortunately, I think this team is more mature and will be more inclined to succeed in the NIT than they were last year. It may not be ideal to cheer for a team in the NIT but you take any win you can in a coaches first year on the job.

Most on this board including myself thought before the season that the middle of the B1G was up for grabs. As of today in my opinion 5-14 are all interchangeable. Despite the record of any of the teams every game will be a pick um and the team that does the small things to win will end up winning. This was a trap game to some fans but to others like myself figured this would be a close one. Before the year i did think since we had senior guards back that we would be better then the 10th place finish we were projected. However after watching a handful of games it was apparent that some didn’t want to buy in to the new system and step up as a leader. While I think we finish better then 10th in the B1G this year 5-14 seems to be the same. When mediocre teams play other mediocre or below average teams you better do the little things to win or results like last night will happen. We done the little things to win the close ones earlier in the B1G( green hitting 4 in a row against penn st since then I believe he is 3-9). Playing Howard and going 12-29 from the line gets you a 9 point win at home Playing Illinois on the road and going 16-29 gets you a 2 point loss

I couldn’t tell if that tweet meant “my fault”. Or “I can’t believe everyone thinks it’s all my fault”. Regardless, I quit reading the replies when 1 of the first ones mentioned him being one of the best ball handlers in the big 10. Where’s RP’s eye roll tweet again?!

Most of the responses were actually really positive from our fans. I was impressed.

That doesn't address why players have regressed in key areas. Why are players regressing in shooting, one of the most important parts of the game?

Why hasn't someone seen on film, every time Rob fades to his left on threes he misses. even doofus Shon Morris can see it.

I still can't believe we lost that game. What a pathetic pass at the end. I guess now we are looking at three straight losses unless we play a perfect game
