HinnyHoosier Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 A world of difference in the focus & intensity of the team from H1 to H2. That's coaching and hopefully upperclassmen leadership. I think it's those two intangibles that are a big root to some of our struggles given the large amount of freshmen minutes and system learning/implementation. Those are the kind of things that improve wth reps, and I believe that although that 5-game gauntlet looming ahead will be stupid tough, it will be one of the most beneficial things this team experiences. HoosierAloha Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 The few times teams have full court pressed us I have liked the way we have handled it.Durham made great decisions breaking the zone. I paid particular attention to how he handled it. He never came unglued. He kept his head up with a second defender came and made the right decision. It was refreshing. DChoosier Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 I love the optimism and how we played in the second half but before we raise the victory flag for the Duke game..... We beat a USF team that also has many players not familiar with their coach and each other. We beat a USF team that lost at home last week, by 10, to Morgan State (whatever that is) We have more talent than USF. Hope I am wrong but I think Duke will beat us by 20. Allen is going to feast on the perimeter and we are in trouble underneath if Davis picks up 3-4 fouls. Quote

cappymo14 Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 If Indiana plays the first half against Duke the way they did this one, crowd noise won’t be there. It’s always a possibility, for a team like ours to upset a team like Duke, but there is only a tiny window of opportunity. For Indiana to hit that window, they cannot have a half like they did tonight. Even if everything goes very well for the Hoosiers, it still might only mean they lose by under 15 instead of 30. Prepare yourselves for that. Go, cheer your @$$ off and enjoy what we all hope will (win or lose) be Indiana announcing its return to national prominence. It’s not just win or nothing. Keep that in mind before you start all the “they suck” and player bashing in the game thread.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners IUBBFan1970, mdn82, CR3AMnCR1MS0N and 2 others 5 Quote

cthomas Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 I just watched Coach Miller's post game presser; he is one intense little dude! What a culture change this must be for the older guys. There's a big difference between intensity with a purpose and the manic approach of the past. Scout, GloryDays, yogisballin and 2 others 5 Quote

This season is all about tempering expectations. See my earlier post. That stretch of games is the trial by fire this team needs that will foster improvement. It'll be tough for the team and for us. We haven't seen the full capabilities of this team mostly due to lack of confidence, inexperience, and role discovery. This stretch of games could really help all that. With the freshmen in particular this may make most of the B1G not quite as intimidating. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

Str8Hoosiers Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Just got to watch the game... i felt like intensity was there all game. 2nd half made me feel really good!!! Ready to dismiss Morgan in the first half, seriously thought i was going to have an aneurysm yelling... but he had a pretty good 2nd half. Hope this is not an aberration for RoJo... Green is amazing to watch... Durham could be special. CuJo adds absolutely nothing to this team. Hartman return will be big. Clifton finally showed me something, in time i can see him get a few minutes. ALASKA HOOSIER, Hoosierfan2017 and CR3AMnCR1MS0N 3 Quote
Josh Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Today's TBT (local newspaper to USF) has no mention of yesterday's game. The sports section has a page on UF football, a page about Jameis Winston, one on the Lightning, and one on Nascar. I'm so glad we beat USF. LIHoosier and yogisballin 2 Quote
Sota Hoosier Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 It was very refreshing to see the guys pull together a solid second half. It finally looked like Archie's methods clicked for an extended period of time and positive results came. The guys were fighting on D, taking care of the ball, and protecting the boards and even making free throws!!! During that first half, several of those TOs were such Crean-type plays it was infuriating....I had to keep reminding myself that all these guys committed to IU buying into Crean's vision and coaching style. Just think of how sad we would all be watching this team if Crean was still the head coach...whoof. I think a lot of the bonehead mistakes we've seen is the result of these guys having to think too much as they're learning a new system and still hanging on to some bad habits. More games and experience should take care of this over time. Newkirk should get limited minutes at best. Durham is an Archie-type PG and has been so solid thus far and Green can be a dynamic play-maker at PG. Playing Newkirk significant minutes will not allow this team to reach its full potential. I really like Smith as well and Moore will come along with more experience and confidence. Our best lineup thus far would be (would likely change with Hartman): PG - Durham (Green is a close second) SG - Rojo SF - Smith/Hartman PF - Juwan C - Davis I love Archie's intensity on the sidelines and how he calls out guys for making mistakes AND uses the bench as punishment. I think this team's ceiling is 20 wins but I definitely think it's possible. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

I don't necessarily agree that it would be a worse nightmare with Crean at the helm since the guys already know how to play his style of game...they might actually be looking better than they have so far but the ultimate ceiling would be lower. I wouldn't go back for anything. I'd LOVE to see this team win 20 games, which would mean at least 11-12 wins in the conference. Quote
