TOM CREAN FIRED

yes. It is growing pains and kids wanting to pad there own stats and not doing things like d wade and Oladipo. Poor summary by me but he did say all those things.

Translation:  "I'm getting exposed because they're not carrying me".  Yeah, we know, we know, we know.

Honestly, tell me what McRobbie! It's Indiana UNIVERSITY, not the Indiana Sports. He oversees the whole school, not just the athletics. The education here is more important than athletics any day.

Your opinion just like mine. Athletics are the front door which has been discussed here and Indiana's flagship athletic program is the door mat. Mr Prez signs off on the contracts and is responsible for Glass. Tell me what our alumni says? They're the ones who donate and basketball is a big part of this even if one doesn't want to admit it.

The product is what the product is. That team with Vonleh also should have NEVER missed NCAAs. We embarrassed ourselves in this tournament nationally. Fully embarrassed ourselves. The end of that game was a debacle. And the beginning. Pretty much the whole trip was a broadcasted national embarrassment. Thanks IU!

I think this team is worse and more lost than the team with Vonleh.

In year 6 we missed the NCAAs with 2 McD AAs.  In year 8 we humiliate ourselves in Maui with 3.  And Crean won't lose his job.

THAT's what I meant by Alabama refused to accept mediocrity.  When they needed the homerun hire, they said "screw it, we're Alabama" and swung for the fences.  We need a homerun hire and need to be saying "screw it, we're Indiana" and aiming for the cheap seats, but we think it'll be different if we give this guy all the time he wants.

Crean didn't build a team this year, he put together a collection of talent.

That last part is the worst part of it all. This isn't a team or a family. Just a group of guys wearing the same jerseys

I graduated from Indiana University with a business degree.  That makes me very proud.  I am proud of our athletics, all of them.  Disappointed?  Yes.  But, never once have I thought "Hmm, the president of the University needs to be fired because our worldwide reputation as a learning institution has been compromised by losing basketball games".  I would be proud to be a Hoosier if we had no athletic programs.  Would you?  Our academic programs have many donors and grants.  Never said your opinion doesn't count.

Here's where I think you're not giving enough credit to where academics and athletics collide.   I heard Bob Knight give a talk once (not long ago), and someone asked him that very question...."what is the place of athletics within an institution of higher learning?"  He said - and I'll paraphrase - the two have to coexist with mutual understanding of the value of both.  When you think of Notre Dame, you don't generally think of the great school it is.  You think of the football team, which they've made movies about.  When you think of Michigan, you think of football.  When you think of Duke, you think of basketball.   And all are fine institutions.  He went on to ask the crowd to name famous alumni from Stanford.  The answers were predictable...Condaleeza Rice was first, but then...Tiger Woods and John Elway.

The point is, if you travel the world and ask people what they think of when you say "Indiana University," the answer 90+% of the time is going to be "basketball" or something related to basketball.  That's just reality.  The men's basketball program is a very prominent window into the university, and gives IU a chance to promote itself, to sell itself on a stage with millions of people watching.   Not every school has what Indiana has...Purdue doesn't....they're known for engineering.  Same with Illinois.  Same with tons of other schools.

I've said this a million different ways (and as mentioned, it's been discussed ad nauseum), but having the pulpit we do is one of the great things about IU Basketball, and something that makes us unique.  Sure, I'd be a proud Hoosier if we didn't have a basketball team.  Problem is.....we do.   And it's very, very visible, and a known entity worldwide.  Which is why it's sacred.  Which is why it's so damned important to people.   Which is why Tom Crean disgusts me as much as he does.   Never in my life have I seen a more undisciplined group of kids on and off the floor.  Never have I seen such incredibly poor leadership from the top down at an entity so important.  Wait...I have, but we don't need to make this a political thread.  McRobbie doesn't care about sports.  I think that's a very short-sighted approach, but I don't think he should have anything to do with this conversation.  Like it or not, athletics generate millions upon millions of dollars for every major university.  Indiana is no exception.   Mickey Maurer gave $35 million over 10 years for the law school.  Cindy Simon gave a lump sum of $40+ million for Assembly Hall.  That's the reality of the world, and whether or not anyone agrees with it doesn't change it.  Indiana Basketball is critically important.  Period.

And they all need the ball to succeed.  This is one reason why I don't want to hear another word about what a great recruiter Tom Crean is.  He has no clue how to build a roster.   And he spent THREE TIMES what anyone else did on recruiting, and 10x+ more than Wisconsin!!

I still don't understand why we need to spend that kind of money or as much time as we do to recruit the east coast.  What's it getting us?  Turnovers?  A bunch of kids who don't have any discipline?  A complete lack of leadership?  I'm stumped.

Im full in now. I was giving him this year to pull onto one side of the fence or the other.

Here's the thing, even if we hire the same level coach at the very least we can all have renewed hope and faith in the program getting back to doing big things.

Here's challenge though. If you guys are serious about firing Crean, do NOT go to another game until he is gone. Once the hall starts going empty, u force Fred's hand. The problem is, yogi doesn't deserve that. But when does the cycle stop? We can't just let the dude run out his entire freaking contract. I dunno the answer. I'd like to just say boycott the program and stop going to the games. Too simple though. Maybe its wrong to be connected to the players. They don't even know we exist for the most part so lets cut the cord..

Just thoughts and ramblings
