Stuhoo Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 I love this Hoosiers team. Not because they are currently all that special, connected, or focused. But because unlike other recent successful Hoosier squads, they have enough: Depth, Defense, Talent, and Character to win a national championship............This year. Butler has us figured out and enough discipline to beat us. It took everything they had and we still just about best them. Now, if we get beat by Nebraska, northwestern, Minnesota, etc. Then I'm killing somebody. Sent from my SM-G900P using BtownBanners mobile app Stuhoo 1 Quote
recker222000 Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 Not sure why everyone is going overboard here....Butler is not a bad basketball team at all. They're gonna be top 15 next week and I honestly won't be surprised if they win the Big East. Yeah we got out coached but we fought back and gave ourselves a chance after digging too deep of a hole. We're not going to win every game...nobody is for that matter but we have played good basketball the first 2 months and have huge wins over UNC, Kansas, and IMO we'll have another big win vs Louisville. At least wait until halfway through big ten season to start freaking out. This team is still young and still gelling. These games will go along way in helping us later in the season so let's just all chill out and at least get to big ten season before we go off the deep endChill baby chill. Everything is cool.Sent from my SM-J700T using Tapatalk Stuhoo 1 Quote
cappymo14 Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 When the schedule came out, I saw KU, UNC, Butler and UL. I said right then, "take 2 of 4 in the major non-con and I'll be happy". We are on track to match or better that prediction, so why am I not happy? Because this is a game we should have won. Simple. We gave up 1.18 pts per possession. Gave up an easy dunk with the game on the line and continue to live and die by the 3. Tell me this, if we are such a good shooting team, why don't we shoot good?Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

Everything is as cool as you choose it to be.This loss coupled with the IPFW loss is a joke. No way we should lose this game. But we always do. Coaching. Coaching. Coaching. He coaches to improve individual talent and not to win games. No surprise to anyone that follows IU basketball. It's such a shame. As others have said, we will never be on the level I think we could be with Crean. Too many flaws. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners Old Friend, Napleshoosier, Bowhunter and 3 others 6 Quote

You would think between the 3 of them they could figure it out. On the other hand, I think a lot of people are being overly dramatic about this loss. It was ugly, but it is still early and butler is a solid basketball team. Sent from my SM-G920V using BtownBanners mobile app I've been silent all season (in wins AND the IPFW loss), but I have to say something here. I don't think it's just this loss, this loss in and of itself isn't bad, it's that year after year we lose these games. Every year well coached, disciplined, fundamental teams are kryptonite to Crean teams and it never changes; occasional win in these kind of games because enough low percentage shots fall. I think that's why you're seeing this reaction, not to this one game but because Crean teams are predictable in these style games. It's not just Butler either, Bo Ryan made Crean his b****h with these kinds of games. Indiana didn't give up and made it close against a solid team, but it's not just this one game IMO. NRT137 Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 While it's frustrating that we lose now, it's really the end of the season that matters. Suppose we go undefeated but lose third round in the NCAA-- everyone cannot stand Crean. On the other hand, a deep run in the tourney will redeem Crean and we would all be happy. Quote

mdn82 Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 He had a ton of drives that led to 0 points. He must have been told to drive because he did it a lot. Too many empty possessions and his drives were part of that. There were a lot of culprits though and Josh and the decision for him to be a key offensive guy was questionable. There was a lot of players like that. Josh was good on the defensive end. Offensively he should never be our number 1 option. bleedhoosier Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 I mean seriously, the game plan was to just give Newkirk the ball in crunch time so he could just drive and throw up that insanely low percentage shot from the right side of the board?Bonus with like 9:46 in the half.. so we just run around throwing up jumpers instead of driving and pounding it home. How Tom Crean doesn't tell the players "the next person who doesn't get the ball to or through the paint, will be pistol whipped".. is beyond me.. the only thing that could make sense is just that Crean doesn't think that's the best option. He's stuck on "creativity". It's just not and has never proven to be reliable. So why we wouldn't use a "reliable" set in crunch time, is baffling.Nope, let's just showcase the guards. He'll make a run to the Sweet 16 where he'll run into a team that's able to slow us down or out athlete us. IU can rebound with the best in the country. However, we're turning it over at an unbelievable rate (stop me if you've heard this before) and not turning teams over. It's the same thing over and over again and the head man wants to "play faster" to "bring fatigue to the game." Did he not realize the slow pace in the first half? Would he have to look at film to see that? He didn't need to play more than 7-8 in the first half with how slow it was. It's just the same things over and over again with them not being corrected. It's frustrating as a fan to watch it continue to happen. That screams Sweet 16 ceiling. I still think we win or share the B1G, go out in our first/second BTT game, and get another Sweet 16. Good season but not great. Napleshoosier and Defenserocks28 2 Quote

A deep run in the tourney. Of course that would fix what ails us. Crean teams aren't capable of that though. There's a reason he's never won a postseason tournament. Odds are by the third day you come up against a team that can play multiple ways and all they do is slow is down and add the L to our column. It's just that simple. A third round exit in the NCAA tourney has been our peak under Crean.. I truly do not think that he's capable of leading a team deep in the tourney. He doesn't have the necessary coaching ability.
