  5. For all of the myopic nonsense SEC fans constantly spout the 1 thing that’s certainly true is the depth of conference stuff. There is no SEC school that this is happening to.

    2026 IUFB: CHAPTER 3

Cig was on McAfee today. Mentioned the 3 RBs on there too, but also mentioned the two elite WRs, Tyler Morris, "and some young guys". Not the rosiest outlook for Shazz based on that.

  7. A solid interview by our own Rhett Lewis. Cig has standard coach-speak reactions throughout, with a few notable specific takes: Once again, Blake Smythe is the one freshman that is called out as overachieving, by name. Cig REALLY likes our RBs. Cig says both lines will be clear team strengths. No surprise, but that = seriously winning football. Says Josh Hoover is ready and that his best skill may be his accuracy. It's Barker and Schott at tight end ... for now. Says Gibbs showed a lot but has a hamstring issue. All in all, it's a remarkably blunt and optimistic assessment of how Cig feels about his team.

  10. It’s a pretty well written amicus brief. The NCAA’s threats of penalties and sanctions against people complying with a court order is laughable. The NCAA itself is a complete mess. I’ll hold out hope it is forced to go away at some point

  11. Great news. I really thought the oline gelling towards the end of the year was the key to success. They struggled a little in Cigs first year at times and started a little slow last year. Him building a dominate oline and just running the ball down teams’ throats should be scary for the rest of college football!

  12. Football in general is just way more popular of a sport than college basketball. Even if the programs were in comparable standing, I think football interest would exceed basketball. Then add in the fact that people under the age of 30 have never experienced a stable IU basketball program, and it’s not surprise at all.

  13. Kid is really good and only getting better and bigger. Took a slant 80 yards against Carmel Friday, out running their whole secondary which includes the highly regarded safety Drake Coellner. Dad played for the Colts- Justin Snow. Justin played at Baylor. Wouldn’t be surprised if the big Texas schools are heavily considered. He’s basically been offered by every top program though. Would be great to keep him local!

  16. Site volume is higher than ever but it’s currently driven by football. College basketball at IU simply doesn’t have the interest it did, even as recently as five years ago. I just checked another board that hasn’t had a post about IU hoops for about a week; even at the slowest season we’ve got multiple people a day discussing IU hoops. FWIW, when IU bball took the Peru trip this summer the board was hopping for hoops.

  22. I like the transfer players giving perspective. They seem to really like the intentional shorter practices. I listened to the media interviews of the players yesterday and either carter or jones mentioned that one thing that is sometimes hard for incoming players is understanding that you have to go full out 100% of practice because it's short. Tyrique talked about the heat and pushing through in those tough short practices. Great article. Cig has a well-oiled machine running at IU.

UMass was 0-12 last season. They are 30 point underdogs tonight at Rutger. At the end of the first quarter, the score is 7-7. And UMass is in Rugers territory and driving.

  27. He’s a weapons-grade s**tbird who cares about nobody except himself, and that includes his own family. When most coaches are trying to find some semblance of sanity or equilibrium, he’s happy driving the whole thing to the bottom for his own gain. Good for the SEC.

  28. Basketball only hung on through its mediocrity because football was so bad. Good…nay Great!…Football will push mediocre basketball right off the stage. Even in Indiana. I’m mid 40’s and barely remember our last basketball title. I was the same age as these college kids for OUR LAST FINAL FOUR. There’s literally nothing anchoring anyone under 30 to IU basketball over football. I’m happy for the students though. It’s cool to have a big thing on campus that everyone is into.

  32. There is definitely more interest in football than basketball right now. Ask any current student and they'll tell you their experience is that IU is a football school and basketball is largely an afterthought. That would of course change with commensurate winning. It's the offseason so of course not much to discuss. I think it's safe to say the board is most active around coach hiring / firings and game days. I would bet that excluding coach hiring / firing, IU basketball discussion online has been steadily declining over the past 10 years. Definitely in comparison to football.

    College Bball Thread

I'm not sure things are so bad drastic measures are needed. College sports have always had drama. Right now the legal cases are annoying, inconsistent, and messy. But TV ratings and attendance are great. Once the season starts it's awesome. While some players don't take classes, most do and almost all players interact with the students and campus. Also athletic depts have hardly any effect on the rest of the school. Even the poorly run ADs with deficits aren't any sort of material issue to the broader school financial picture. I worry about the implications of decoupling the revenue sports. If the fans feel their players are not college students like they were... they will lose interest quickly. And "college" teams owned by the usual type of pro sports owners/investors sounds unappealing to me as they will push things to be more NBA/NFL-like, which I really don't want. I think we're eventually (five or more years out) going to see players become employees of the conferences with some sort of collective bargaining. But who knows.

  39. -Marsh goes top-7 in the draft and the only WR taken above him is Jeremiah Smith. I’ll one-up Old Friend and say Carter Smith (as a guard), Becker, and Tobi get us to at least 4 first rounders. -Hoover is within ~25 yards of Fernando’s rushing total from 2025 at the end of the season. -Beebe leads the RB room in carries/yards, Turbo is close behind, and Khobie once again is 3rd. 2 of the 3 return for 27-28. -We score more points per game (41.6) and give up fewer (11.7) than 2025. -Not measurable, but Byron Baldwin is impossible to leave off the field and will be considered the most talented player on the roster going into 27-28. Similarly, Jacob Savage gets put on the Rolijah Hardy trajectory and Davion Chandler primes himself for a JR-year breakout. -Last but not least…we meet Miami again in Vegas and blow them out to repeat.
