Basically agree with a couple exceptions: 1) Based on what I saw looking into him last year I’d like to keep Harris. He’s so young, will still have 3 years, and has the frame to get strong enough to play in the B1G and has bounce and some skill. Could be an Alexis sort of player eventually which I think is a useful piece on a good team. 2) Would be fine keeping Drake. He worked so hard to get there and he’s played so much ball that as a combo 5th guard I’m confident you’d get his best and in that role I’m ok with that. 3) You probably have to retain him, but I’d be absolutely fine if Dorn left. Single skill dudes who can’t defend you or me are too tough to win with. He’s the 7th guy on a good team and I imagine his expectations here are gonna be Wilkerson-level shots which he doesn’t rate. Gonna have to just trust the staff on the kind of kid he is. 4) What I care about more than anything else, by far, is finding a leader. This team, despite all those old kids, didn’t have that guy and I think it cost it cost them a tournament bid. Way too many games where they splintered and just couldn’t get it pulled together. They have that kid comin’ down the road. Moody’s one of those kids, 100% sure of it, but not next year. Man, they need to find a heartbeat on the floor and it had to drive DDV nuts.5 points

I generally agree with your walk before you run position, but for me it’s going a little too far to suggest ducking UK at Lucas Oil of all places. If we want to do that, what’s the point of even having a team. We’ve got to have some ambition and guts and pride when we spend $10-12.5M on players and spend a ton on coaches.5 points

hey ya’ll.. Ricky checkin’ in - for one last time.. as most of you know, i am known amongst IUMBB fans as the most reliable insider in the history of the program. today, i post here for the final time. as some of you may know, i am a very close friend of Coach Woodson’s - i’ve told the tales.. his firing has not been easy for me to accept, and as a matter of fact, i’ll set the tone now.. Darian DeVries, you ruined my life.. your son shoots the ball like Jordan Geronimo, and i want you to leave my university at once.. until then, Rick will be but an urban legend.. thank you all for the years of support. - Barrel Rick, 2026 not sponsored4 points -

Honestly I view this differently from ND football declining a bowl game. Staff needs as much time as possible to build a better team for next year. They blew this one. Nothing to be gained trotting them out there at this point IMO. If we had more returners I'd be inclined to agree with you.4 points -

Sure, here is the problem you have though: Michigan, Michigan St., Purdue, Illinois, Louisville, Kentucky, and to a lesser extent Ohio State are all out in front of us right now and our program has gone out of its way to NOT recruit that type of player for at least several years. Like seriously, this is preaching to the choir but I cannot think of another school that has ruined its brand as bad as our administration fumbled the ball on our basketball team. A literal masterclass in incompetence.4 points -
It would have been fun though to watch IU beat NC State and see USPS get arrested for a one-man court storm.4 points

Would be completely down with getting in here. Tough, smart, mature game, good shooter. Plus, has kind of a chippiness about him where you just know he’s one of those kids opposing fanbases will always hate and he’ll eat it up.4 points

Absolutely true, and he just does that stuff naturally. He’s got that wiring. Program hasn’t had that guy in a long time. Maybe since Yogi.4 points

Louisville was cancelled before he got here. I guess you could cite cancelling the UVA home/home, but part of that is money related (home games are worth $4-5M) and CFB is just different from CBB — losses are far more damaging, more wear and tear in P4 games, etc. IU does gain something by playing UK. A program has to have some pride and try and beat their rival, who by the way isn’t exactly amazing right now. We were beating them by 7 at half at their place this season. They’re beatable under Pope.4 points

This comment was posted in response to Scott Van Pelt calling this season at Maryland unacceptable. Feels like the exact same type of lament we have. At least we're not the only ones... - We all have stuff going on. But we also all need a distraction. I would LOVE for this to be a distraction. But, it isn't. This isnt' fun. We've had degrees of fun on and off for the last 20 years or so (thank you Greivis) , but following this team has been work. I grew up in an ACC household (not a Maryland one, unfortunately). But, I went to Maryland and instantly cut all other ties to any others. Unfortunately, that was the first year they missed the tournament (04-05). I got redemption though, seeing Will Bowers dominate a young Seph Curry in the 2007 tourney. Whatever. I graduated and tried to stay connected. I volunteered for the Terrapin Club. I remember putting red celophane in the stairwell windows of Elliott Hall for College Gameday cameras to catch. Or organizing gamewatches in rural Maryland. And, I ended up parlaying it into a job working for UMD doing fundraising for several years. I'm in a different career now, but I owe a lot to UMD, and I've tried to stay connected as much as I can. In my 20s, the games would affect my mood. Make my week. I remember my first job post college, working a night shift in the basement of a hotel in DC, catching glimpses of the UMD/UNC game where Boom Osby and James Gist just gave it to them. And "go back to the ghetto" was audible from the UNC student section after the loss. Oh, man. In my 30s, MD Basketball was a hobby. I was more established in my career. My college friend group dispersed. I watched every game. Sometimes, it was taped beacause of kids. But, it was one of the things that was still a part of me. I just turned 40 this year. I watched like 14 minutes of a game, and that's just because it was on while I was in a bar with some friends. I could have prioritized games. I didn't. Because I have no connection to this team. I know it's football, but this tracks. I was texting someone during the Super Bowl, and I was able to say that I was ~15 feet away from Diggs when he committed to Maryland at the Turtle in CP. I followed these guys from recruitment through their career. Even if they ended up elsewhere - I knew their story (the litany of recruiting misses...). So, maybe this is as much about the current enviornment as it is about Buzz. But - I don't care. I don't know these kids. These coaches. Anything. And they don't know us. And - it's not like everyone has to be a die-hard. But: play the game. Let me pretend that you care about this as much as I do. Because, if nobody on the team cares about Maryland, then why should I?3 points -

Should have done it this year. Giving them 2 home games to IUs 1 home game just to get it back on the schedule tells you all you need to know as to where both teams are at. IU gains nothing with these games until they are actually in a better spot. Did Cig duck Cincy or did Cig do what was best for his program at the current time? IU schedules better in the non con this year and they are probably in the tourney.3 points -

In Byington first year at Vandy they were 20-12(8-10) 3-7 on the road. 5-9 in Q1 4-3 in Q2 sos- 27 non con-330 scheduled non con games against non tourney teams that produced them Q2 wins Margin of error for teams that just make it compared to the ones that just miss is small. Byington had done a fantastic job at Vandy and it looks like in year 2 he built on what he did in year 1 and has it rolling now.3 points -
