  1. Nah... Basketball titles: IU 5, Purdump 0 Football titles: IU 1, Purdump 0 They truly suck

  2. Clocking in for work today starting at 12:30. Baylor/Arizona St start the day off on espn + and Idaho/Eastern Washington end the day in the Big Sky semifinals at 11:30 in espn 2. Let’s have a day. Big Sky semis on tv so everyone can hear the best small conference commentator.

  3. ^^YES!^^ People treat new leaders as if they are some kind of ready-made savants. That is very rarely how it works. As I said yesterday: Bad leaders: Acknowledge when they make mistakes, and It's merely lip service to keep the barking dogs at bay. Good leaders: Acknowledge when they make mistakes, and Make appropriate changes to improve based on what they've learned. At IU we have the ultimate ready-made-savant new program leader, Curt Cignetti, as a vivid extreme outlier example. But Cignetti (and Dusty May) are not the norm. The norm when coaches succeed greatly are guys like Underwood, Golden, Hurley, or Gard; whom their fanbases pretty much hated early in their tenure. Of course, for every Golden or Underwood, there is an Archie Miller or Ben Johnson; guys that were meh early and never figured it out. So the primary takeaway? After one season a new program leader can learn and be fantastic, but it's far from a given that it will turn out that way. One would think that isn't a revelation, but human nature fosters impatience and early summary conclusions. I completely understand that, especially at IU where the all-time outlier thrives with an undefeated football national champion in year two, and a series of meh basketball coaches never did get it right.

  4. Do that for consecutive possessions and Tucker would be on the bench with an O2 mask. Also doesn’t help that the PG can’t/won’t shoot

With IUs last 10 year run everything will break for them to once again just have to beat Northwestern and they make it in and they lose to them again lol.

  6. Oh my God. When people that went to the Peach Bowl tried to describe the sonic boom when Ponds had the pick 6, I didn't believe it due to the lack of quality audio from TV or the radio call. Now I get it.

  7. It must be cause as Ant pointing out most come away with that thought. I think most coaches that come into the league think they can get away with just playing the way they played in the other leagues and the B1G is a different beast. I hate the style of play the B1G forces their teams to play and would much rather watch other conferences. Always wanted new coaches to come in and change the way the B1G is viewed but I’m afraid until Izzo and Painter are out of the league it won’t change. Beilien was the closest I saw someone be real successful by not playing the old B1G style. Most coaches get humbled in the B1G first and then adjust as needed. Words can’t describe how much I hate the B1G style of play.

  9. FWIW, Brian Evans, who tends to be very much an IU cynic on podcasts, says he personally knows Ryan Carr well and speaks to him regularly, and also says that Carr is absolutely excellent in pretty much every way that matters.

  10. I don't think it's worth reading much into the whole "surprised by the Big Ten" quote... just a boilerplate thing coaches say when they underachieve IMO. We're fully staffed and should have a lot of cash on hand with the seniors leaving. We should already have some irons in the fire with the portal. Would like to see us lock up 2 studs early, see if we can avoid a prolonged bidding war.

  11. I think DeVries built this team more for the NCAA tournament where games typically turn into track meets and lack of size is less of an issue. But he forgot that you have to go through the Big Ten gauntlet to make the tournament first.

  12. Coached him for team USA under 19 and won gold. That played a big part in him picking Arizona

  15. 3 or 4 most likely. Painter needs a 14 and 10 seed loss to complete the double digit loss set. Kind of pulling for the 3 seed just to see if he can get a step closer to the double digit gauntlet

  17. Wisconsin and Nebraska don’t have first year coaches who threw together rosters in a 2-3 week span. Thats a pretty glaring omission you’re conveniently leaving out. This years version of IU has one consensus top 100 recruit, a true freshman at that. It’s at best a mid-major all-star team physically outmatched in an elite conference. If next years roster looks like this years roster, I’ll start to worry. I don’t think it will however.

  18. That’s why most coaches suck. They are too cool for school. True professionals, regardless of the profession, analyze the situation and figure out what they need to do. They answer the fundamental question — what do I need to do to succeed. Any coach that comes into the Big10, or any league, and doesn’t understand what they need to do, isn’t a very good coach. Sure, some may adapt and adjust, but that is time lost. Seems Dusty May figured it out day one.

  20. They had a phenomenal day. Once they add their draft class, Fernando should be in a pretty solid spot as far as rookie QBs go. Brady is going to do wonders for that organization.

  21. Kenny Johnson’s wheel house. Guessing Massamba Diop goes portaling after Hurley’s firing. Will likely be one of the best C prospects available, assuming he doesn’t go pro.

  23. Bad leaders: Acknowledge when they make mistakes, and It's merely lip service to keep the barking dogs at bay. Good leaders: Acknowledge when they make mistakes, and Make appropriate changes to improve based on what they've learned. Archie and Woody fell squarely into the first category; hopefully CDD will fall into the second category.

  24. Anyone that knows this program, knows the most likely scenario this week. - We beat NW or PSU and look good doing so. - There will be excitement that follows the next 24 hours about the possibility of beating Purdue and making the NCAA Tournament. - We proceed to lose to Purdue (and it probably won't be close).

  25. Rutgers’ leading scorer Nènè Ndiaye plans to enter the transfer portal, she and her agency @staylinesports told @On3. The 6-1 junior averaged 14.8 ppg, 5.3 rpg and 1.4 spg, while shooting 42% from deep. https://www.on3.com/her/news/rutgers-nene-ndiaye-plans-to-enter-transfer-portal/

  26. From ius perspective they want Maryland to destroy Oregon by as much as they can so Marylands NET gets to 135. That would make IUs win at Maryland a Q2 win which would look better then a Q3 win

  28. Stanford was in before this game. Win 2 we are in easy. I don’t think enough can happen to get us in with 1 win though.

  29. A title is a title is a title. No diminishing that, not even decades passing. I wish we'd be better too, but I wouldn't trade our program for Purdue's just because they regularly make the tournament and proceed to embarrass themselves more recently / often than we do. Maybe someday they'll look like Ivy League football titles. That day is not particularly soon. A lot of people were alive for our last basketball title (and we were all alive for the football title). No need to inflate little bro's sense of self-worth.

  30. Yes correct he had to figure out how to get from (*checks notes*) 27 wins, 2nd in the Big 10, a BTT title, and a sweet 16 in year 1 to 29 wins and counting, a big 10 title and arguably the national title favorite in year 2 . Apples to Oranges. Dusty May is an ELITE coach I get it he will never be the HC at IU I've accepted that timing was a b**ch. DD is the guy for the foreseeable future but he aint touching what Dusty did this year in his year 2 no matter what he says he's "learned". Honestly my gut tells me he might get a little more talent next year. If he can finish inside the top 7 in the Big Ten next year that's a win IMO. But right now I'm not sure I've seen enough to believe that's possible. Hope I'm wrong!

  31. Evidently so. Boy wonder, Dusty May, said he underestimated the physicality in conference at the end of last year.

  34. DeVries said early on that his teams would push the ball up the court and get a shot within 12 seconds on the shot clock. Haven't seen much of that at all so far this year.

  36. And #18 would play out to a five seed. Seems like they'd be a four seed and hopefully would run into UF or Duke if they won their first two.

  37. Purdue sure is living off its preseason #1 legacy. Down to #18 in the AP poll but still projected as a 3 seed.

  38. I’d say IU’s talent composite is much closer to Minny and NW than it is UCLA who has largely underachieved this year with several top 100 recruits. Iowa has a potential lottery pick running its show and has fared slightly better than IU this year with an easier schedule.

  40. Think it’s too early to make judgement on X’s and O’s until there’s competent personnel. We’re a bottom 4 team in terms of talent in the conference, and yes, I know DeVries picked the roster. Really tough to execute consistently on either end of the floor when you’re outmanned and outmatched on the court. Archie nor Woody would sniff the bubble with this talent make up, I think that at least says something. Willing to see what this offseason looks like with a full staff in place and not being force to start from scratch on the fly.

  41. And Underwood basically reinvents things every year. Not many guys at all who can do that. The B1G and the Big 12 are so insanely well coached and scouted. Just obviously better than any other conferences. That DDV was able to do what he did at WVU last year with that situation demonstrates clear as day that the dude’s got the chops to do this. But you gotta have Guys to do it night in/night out and this team has basically 1 1/2 Guys and some useful complimentary pieces and that ain’t gonna get it done, doesn’t matter how schemed and scouted up you are. The ‘26 kids are different animals talent-wise, will be really interested to see what they prioritize in the portal.
