  1. I’m not sure student surveys are a great measure

  2. If you hire someone for your job that no one else in your industry would hire for their’s, you’re gonna be wrong way more often than you’re gonna be right. Foster wasn’t even getting OC buzz. He was never gonna be a high major HC anywhere else.

  4. I don’t know how they actually measure this because some of these universities let their campuses go to complete H3ll last year before doing something about it, meaning “free speech” was at its apex there until the students got out of hand and the students “free speeching” for a particular cause, a very well coordinated and externally funded cause, were told to chill. IU got ahead of that nonsense and didn’t end up on CNN for three months letting the campus become a mess. That doesn’t mean IU has become a beacon of closemindedness and anti-free speech, but it’s a narrative some folks can now run with.

  12. I don’t hate the idea of taking it a different direction, but 2 things: 1) Don’t love it on a week night. Somebody from Indy or Louisville taking their 10yo down there on a school night? 2) Not sure about having to rely on dry weather the 2nd week in October.

    2025 IUFB Season

SeatGeek is now a direct seller on behalf of IU. It’s smoke and mirrors so IU can claim a sell out, and dump large swathes of tickets. Normally I wouldn’t care but it drives up the cost of the tickets due to the 25% buyers fee fans have to pay when buying from the platform. It also had an aggregator tool to allow them to see on other broker platforms like Vivid Seats. There’s zero transparency and it makes it 10x harder for fans to sell their tickets if they can’t go to a game

  14. I think that survey data validity is at an all time low, especially when one is measuring perception vs actual reality and the influence of TikTok. For example, BYU will suspend a student for drinking coffee. I wonder what their position/ranking on free speech truly is? Tying this back to the “topic du jour,” many of these lowly ranked universities have condoned some horrific speech from students and professors alike the last two years. The perception of universities having some standard to quell disruptive protests does not necessarily equate to having prohibitive rules on free speech. In fact, I would say some of the universities ranked around IU have had embarrassingly lax free speech policies. And don’t even get me started on the stats when you break down the skewed political affiliation of professors and invited campus speakers…

  17. That’s really strange. There were like 3000 tickets left for MSU and UCLA games last week. I’m not complaining, just wondering how they did it.

  25. Sticking this on Kirkwood basically screams "not a family event" to me...and I'm assuming anyone else that's ever been to Kirkwood on a Thursday night. I'm pretty indifferent to Hysteria/preseason events these days, but on the surface this is a very strange direction to go in like five different ways.

  29. Meh. Pretty elite group of schools there in the Bottom 10, in traditionally left-leaning hubs of the country. Honestly this is kind of a compliment of the student body makeup. To Stu’s point, I’d imagine schools like Auburn, U Mississippi, Liberty, SMU are near the top of this list. Just a guess

  30. Of course. I’m not attacking you, and this is an interesting data point for the university. I’d much rather hear about how IU is managing today’s campus life through message boards than on national TV.

  31. ^^1,000,000%^^ Having been around those Boston campuses on that list, I can confidently state that those ‘“less free speech” campuses largely are the ones that push hard at the limits of free speech (and that’s their prerogative). Whereas my kid at University of Florida is on a campus where almost no one pushes at limits, and therefore those UF kids don’t feel restricted.

  33. Fun! Oduro has been great this season. I don’t think he came off the field vs Notre Dame. At that position that’s incredible. Previous years we would get out possessed even in a lot of the games we won. This years team is better at controlling the ball. Also willing to quick strike. So far, so good. His brother is the same way. I'm assuming the family is pretty outgoing in general, which really helps in front of a camera. Both of them played at Miami Columbus and were exposed to the press there as well.

  36. Welcome back to 2017/2018 IU Soccer as a legit national contender as one of the top 5 squads in the country. It's been too long. This Notre Dame game is a bellwether for how serious the Hoosiers are about getting back to the College Cup and maybe winning a title without divine intervention like in 2022. Test past! Getting back to Cary, N.C., for another College Cup will very likely be attempted the easy way, with at least two home games, if not three, and likely only one heavyweight battle coming in the Elite Eight. Doesn't mean you get that far, as happened in 2019. However, they will almost certainly get two home games in the Round of 32 and the Sweet 16, where they are the clear favorites. Similar to 2017, where 2016 saw longtime veterans gone, and the season was basically a birthday present waiting to be unwrapped. 2025, after 2024, is similar, with the talent of new players coming in vs. ones departed taking the squad to a whole new level from solid to elite. In 2017, it was Trey Muse, Mason Toye, Griffin Dorsey, and Justin Rennicks replacing Colin Webb, Grant Lillard, Richard Ballard, and Tanner Thompson, to go with veterans coming into their own in Andrew Gutman and Francesco Moore, among others. It's not that the losses are not big. It's just the replacements are even better and move the team to a whole new tier. Similarly, now in 2025, you lost JT Harms, Tommy Mihalic, Samuel Sarver, and Patrick McDonald. However, the veterans are coming into their own in Collins Oduro, Josh Maher, and Alex Barger, with newcomers in Palmer Ault, Jacopo Fedrizzi, and Colton Swan being even better than their predecessors, unlocking a whole new level not seen in several seasons.

Just like last year, the press didn't believe what we were doing. It just adds fuel to the chip in that locker room. I'm all for it. Plus, we'll get our chances to change the entire narrative. We play 3 schools in top 10.

Very glad the mama elephant that was pissed at us and ten feet from our open air Range Rover decided to turn back. Leopard had an impala up in a tree having a violent lunch 25 feet from us. 40. Looked like a serious championship contender for the first time tonight, which was good to see. Hopefully, it continues, and the team can play well all year in what is shaping up to be an extremely weak Big Ten.

  41. Pleased enough with this start. Talent is there this year without question. Gotta get some things figured out. I’m reeling a bit where my son lost their first game of the season last night 0-1 after outplaying the #1 team all game. Bit bummed. PS- our team is 3-1-1 now and hopefully get a rematch in sectionals or regionals for the revenge game. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners

  42. Hey can you help me out with this screenshot? Under the school names, there are two numbers separated by a hyphen. Purdue's starts with 1 followed by a 10 and then under Indiana, it's 10 followed by 1. Why are they backwards?

  44. Since Gov. Braun has been running things there have been some major changes regarding his power. He's able to remove and appoint IU Board of Trustees members. So far he's replaced 6 trustees with 6 conservatives. He's also been on record saying he wished IU is better aligned with what the school up north (lost to IUFB 66-0) was doing. Braun is a school up north (lost to IUFB 66-0) grad. He's got a lot of power at the moment. Just google "braun iu trustees" if you want to learn a little more about the current state of things. Just a friendly reminder, IUFB, 66-0.
