I’d be cool with Smith playing on the wing IF he reworked his shot, found some handles, defended the perimeter better, and showed he gave a damn. Until then, I’d put him way down the depth chart behind anyone who showed effort. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app8 points -

Villanova has lived on kids in the 30-60 range. I'm very confident kids ranked around 50 on average easily outperform kids ranked around 125. I think the 30-75 range is the sweet spot because you are getting really good players that likely aren't going pro after 1-2 years.7 points -

I get it and I'm with you. I'm talking about the history of this board. I've made the same argument for years...rankings mean nothing unless you get a few top 30-40 kids on the same roster. I'd rather have basketball players. Happy to see others beginning to agree.4 points -

Yes because never in the history of college basketball has a freshmen dramatically improved his shooting numbers. Yogi was shooting over 40 percent from day one.......Wait the judges just informed me that despite having Cody Zeller, Watford, Hulls and Oladipo to create space Yogi only shot 30 percent his freshmen year. Upping it to 40 his next season. Is it possible that players get better?4 points -

Look at Texas Tech's players and their rankings. Rob Phinisee wasn't a top 100 recruit. I'm done worrying about recruiting rankings. If the kid will play hard for Indiana and Archie plus fit the system I will take them!4 points -

Define "win?" Indiana needs to show significant progress next season, and they need to continue setting themselves up for longer term success; but what "has" to happen next season? I'm not sure I think next season is the end all, be all with his first recruiting class being sophomores.4 points -

So I guess TTU is the outlier here. Last I checked, they were pretty good last year and well, we know how good they are this year. I'm not saying that our recruits have to be total 'shots in the dark' but it starts with culture. If you not allow CAM to build his program, his culture, then a disservice is being done to our program. He is the one prowling the sidelines, not you or me. It is a learning process for all and I think that he learned alot this past season. Some 3* players develop into great team-first players, some don't. Some 5* players are busts, most aren't. Too many are quick to judge a player before they are even given a chance to develop. It's all about now, now, now.3 points -

3-0 in National Championship games and his players were students first and never bought and paid for. Wooden had Sam Gilbert and Coach K had Nike and jewelry loans. UNC had paper classes so that takes Coca Cola Roy and Dean out of the equation. If you had one game to win, Knight is #1 with a bullet. 2nd on my list is Everett Case. Not for his wins and championships even though he had many, but he’s responsible for Tobacco Road b-ball, the ACC tourney and March Madness, as well as cutting down the nets. This Hoosier stole that tradition from IN high school b-ball, but his innovation can be directly linked to why college b-ball has become so popular and great. Without him the Tar Heel State would still consider football #1.3 points -
I think it’s because you said we needed to bury the hatchet. They care but they aren’t mad at Knight. Nobody is. They just recognized it was time for a change. Then Knight went full on FU to IU for the last 20 years. It isn’t really the fans that have to bury a hatchet. If he comes back to an IU game cool. If he doesn’t cool. I don’t necessarily care if he does or doesn’t. Really doesn’t change anything that happened. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app3 points

Interesting to see the data that shows 4* perform at a higher level than 3* recruits in college. I understand the 5* arguement, but I think the accuracy of ranking drops after that can’t miss guys. Does the 50th ranked 4* kid really out perform the 125th ranked 3*? I think a lot depends on coach, system, player mentality, etc. recruiting rankings do not account for those. Which is why after the 5* can’t miss prospects one can’t bank of rankings.3 points -

Archie isn’t against an uptempo game, as long as it’s created from defense. The problem we had this past season was getting transition from our defense in conference play. We seemed out of sync running the fast break and I think a lot of that had to do with continuing Tú due to injury. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app3 points -

Both the university and athletic department have tried to bury the hatchet for years... but Knight has always rebuffed the attempts at reconciliation by being an @$$. I hate what dementia and Alzheimer's disease do to a person, but all of the hate has been on Knight's side. He has been invited back multiple times for a chance for the university and athletic department to honor him and bestow love/praise/honor on him, but he's carried too large of a grudge to allow that to happen. Glad to see that, for whatever reason, he is showing signs of being willing... but don't attempt to spin this any way except that it's been on him.3 points -

He's coming to the school to perform, not give life advice to the football team. College kids don't care about his legal issues, they just like his music. And my comment was more about the larger movement by some schools to modernize college athletics and bring them in line with modern day culture, a movement that IU is lagging way behind in.3 points -

It just has to be "improved." Franklin will help. Hunter will really help. Jackson-Davis is really solid. Phinisee will be healthy. Thompson will be healthy. Sounds like Green is working hard and I know Durham will. Davis will be another year healthier and a senior. One of the most experienced bigs in the conference. We'll already be deeper as far as talent is concerned. We have lost all dead weight save Anderson and really will only miss Morgan. Everyone else save Romeo we lost is just a body, and he played hurt and limited all year. I firmly believe Franklin can give us 10-12 of his points. I'll start with those 8 kids and feel like we're a better team than we were this past season....especially if Green can just get rid of the poor decisions. That by itself makes us 4-5 points better every single night.3 points -

We can't control how other teams recruit, but signing our best class ever won't matter much if all the schools we play against signed better classes than we did. Improving relative to ourselves isn't as important as improving relative to the schools we compete against.2 points -
Exactly - we need foundation players. We need guys that are here for 3-4 years and want to get IU back without worrying so much about their own draft status. It's easy to look at Oladipo and say we want a roster of those guys, but a little harder to know who those guys are. He had the physical tools, but worked his butt off to get his skills where they needed to be, all in the context of the team. He was a rare guy who could showboat a little, but you never felt like he was trying to hog the attention or take anything away from his teammates. But you also have guys with a lot of skill with maybe not all of the physical tools. Many times those guys play with passion and a chip on their shoulder that you don't get from the higher ranked players.2 points

Smith’s best fit is as a small ball 4 in an up tempo game. He would have been a fit for Crean. But if he genuinely believes he belongs on the wing, that’s a problem. Since Archie would rather not play small or up tempo, and if Hunter is able to go, I really don’t see a fit for Smith.2 points -
